Otakon 2003: Gathering Time and Place

Postby iserlohn » Thu Jul 24, 2003 5:20 pm

Since the other thread's been taken off topic past the point of no return, this thread is to make specific plans for where and when there will be meet-up(s) at Otakon.

So far, the possible times are:
-Thursday Night 10:30 PM
-Friday Morning 8 or 9 AM
-Saturday Morning/Afternoon after the AMV Workshop

It looks like Thursday night will be the most popular, but there's been no set places to meet up. Corbo BASH is also on Saturday Night, but it would be nice to have an all-ages safe gathering as well.

I'd be very up for a Friday morning gathering, since most people are intending to get their preregs on Thursday, and nothing happens at Otakon before noon anyhow, so getting breakfast would be a good way to 1)meet people away from the crowded and unopened BCC and 2)get in one of those mandatory meals that's more than an energy bar.

Once Matt posts the times of the AMV contest screenings and the workshop, we can look into the possibility of getting a meal in between. Either way, I expect to see all of you at the workshop.

Now that we've got times worked out, we need to find a place. Everyone check out Otaku Chow and come up with something. The only rules is that it has to be open at the times we want to meet up and have something vegetarian on the menu. Oh, and not 21+ only would be good. Once we've got a place or two picked out, we should make an RSVP thread so that we can ensure that there's room for all of us.[/url]

Heh, you can see my response to this at the other thread (funny how both these topics sprang up within minutes of each other when the last post on the old one was hours ago). On Friday morning, I was planning on working then, but that's not set in stone, so I might be able to make that, but would prefer Thursday night or at the AMV showing.

as i posted in the new gathering thread, i think after the AMV panel would be a very good time, seeing as how most if not all of us will most likely be there. Also group contest watching sounds good too ^_^

Definitely up for group contest watching, which will allow for us all to cheer, collectively, when someone's video comes on :D

The panel was the place I ended up hooking up with everyone last year, so that's clearly a good bet.

My vote still goes to something after Thursday's badge pick-up for a specific meeting, and then everything else is cool with me...

I'm still feeling Thursday post-badge pickup, 'cuz I'm gonna be hungry as hell by then, but at least we'll be in one place and we won't have to rush dinner because so-and-so's panel is in 20 minutes or we've gotta get in line for such-and-such 'cuz there's only 6 hours 'till the doors open and I want good seats.

Boo Thursday stuff! Go Saturday stuff! I won't be there on Thursday or Friday :( I *definately* won't be attending the Corbo Bash because I'm under 18. But yeah, take note that some people won't be arriving until Friday or Saturday.

Post-badge-pickup would be cool, there are enough restaurants open 'till 12-2am+ that we'd be able to relax, have a good meal, then go back to our rooks and drink 'till Hsien vomits.

Bah, I most likely won't even be there that night :) I have friends coming in, so I have to wait for them...and unless they get in at like 3 PM or something (which they almost certainly won't), I'd have to pay like $20 just for parking.
And I only vomit at AWA! :P
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

hmm, some research (and reading on the otakon boards) says that most of the places in the harbor are under rennovation or not the type to stay open late...would one of the baltimore (semi-)natives be up for looking around seeing where to go?

I'd be up for something Thursday night. Definitely have to make the workshop a must, and the contest is pretty much a given, natch. ;)

I'm not a Baltimore native or anything but I mean be able to convince my friend into taking me up there. If I do I'll let you know what I see. Otherwise, dunno. I was there about 2 months ago and everything seemed okay.

The con schedule's now online at:

http://www.otakon.com/happenings_schedule.html

I have to miss the yaoi panel to see my AMV =( However, Anime: 1983 sounds interesting, and may make up for it. Yay oldschool!

Ack! Now I have to decide what all I want to do, and when... I should probably go to the Digital Animation Drawing, but I'd love to go to Drawing 1 as well. And they're both at the same time- that's annoying. Also... I can't remember if this was mentioned before but- there's only one showing of the contest this year? Or is the second in one of the rooms not listed (there have to be more rooms running stuff than just that, right? Only one anime room is listed...)
