Alrighty, I've been doing some research on restaurants, and I wanted to know what you all's preferences are.

Well, in food and also in distance.
I have this great restaurant in mind, called The Melting Pot. It's a place that does all fondue. Truly an expirence. However, it's just over seven miles from the hotel. And pretty expensive(if you get the normal four course meal).

Also, preferences in price ranges would be nice, as well....

So, I live like... In AWA's backyard, and am free for arguments with restaurants and stuff. So, contact me or post here...

(sorry for reviving this thread, though).

I'm up for anything up to 40-50 bucks, and to those that know me and my.... um... unorthadox style of dress, I'll be dressed in something without ripped knees, safety pins, paint stains, etc. IE: a sportcoat, slacks and a tie.

Okay, no dress code. Of course.
But what about food and time and distance?

I heard you all went to a Japanese place last year...?
Also, would you all have seperate bills, or one bill for everyone?

A lot of places add 15+% for parties of 6 or more. If you get seperate bills, they add the gratuity to each bill.
I don't know if they do that for every place in the US, but I know they do it in GA...>.>

Any more inputs would be great.

Thanks in advance.

How about a 5 mile radius around the hotel for restaurant locations?

There is the issue of transportation. I've been talking to the con hotel about using their limited shuttle service since our con will be taking over the hotel and creating a reasonable perimeter to work within. Car pooling could work but it was barely pulled off last year when I ran the dinner and with this year obviously being a bigger crowd I'm not hold my breath. RSVPs wouldn't help the car pooling too much because we are bound to get more people just by meeting in the lobby (we gained 10 people that way last year...all AMV creators too which is kind of scary). I've got a handful of nearby restaurants (don't have this list on me, sorry) that may fit the range, cost, and seating (which is a big issue).

Not trying to sound rude or ungrateful or anything but I do have the dinner plans in hand. I'll be physically scouting restaurants soon, hopefully this Saturday now that my videos are done, and will be checking out seating arrangements first hand. That is my number one concerns because if everyone can't socialize with each other easily the dinner really isn't worth the effort. As for billing the plan right now is going to depend on the restaurant but most restaurants will not do split checks for such a large group so I am planning to do a list of attendees and settle bills with an automatic tax and tip added to everyone's bill (tipping is usually 18% for a group dinner such as this, again details will depend on the final restaurant).

SQ, if you're local to that part of town I could email you a final list of restaurants that meet our needs once I've seen them to see if you have a liking or disliking for any of them.

No, you didn't sound rude at all.
I was only mentioning it since I had restaurants on my mind lately, and I remember you stating something about giving you a line.
Since you have all that stuff in order, though, go ahead and get it to me and I'll do all I can to help, seeing as I only live a mere 10 minutes away from the area.

Since you mentioned transportation, we could just all meet at the lobby and walk. Atlanta's a crowded place so restaurants shouldn't be too far out unless we were looking for somethign specific(like the melting pot).
However, it's also late at night, and Atlanta's a party city with tons of gangs....

Well, whatever floats your boat. I'm free for anything you want me to slave over. ;)

known ass-whuppers:

Umezono's. The sweetest sushi bar and grill in the northwest side where you're greeted with a huge "IRASHAIMASE~!" Udon specialty.

Fogodecho. Brazilian steakhouse. $70 a head, but all you can eat of everything. Thats everything in the restaraunt. Beef of all cuts, kinds and styles.

Five Season's Brewery. Run by our own anime geek Den-chan, former Yakitori chef turned brewer. Supremely laid out taver/sports bar/ family restaraunt/lounge/outside eatery.

Kobe. Right next door to 5 Season's a Kobe Beef steakhouse. if you've never had kobe beef. . .you should.

some suggestions to getya started, RW.

Price is no issue. If it's too expensive, I'll just have free water ;)

Distance is an issue. I'm flying in, so unless it's within jogging distance or we got some distributed transportation, I'm not gonna make it there.

Who goin' mess with da big, bad AMV gang out on the town that night?! Seriously, we are looking at over 30 people in the end. That's a big group to jump, even at night.

I'll add those restaurants to the Saturday hunt. I know there will be some cost involved but $70 is probably a bit steep for a lot of folks. We'll probably hit a place that does $25-40 a head not counting drinks but I'd like to keep it below $50. If a lot of people don't eat it 1) won't be as fun and 2) may not make the restaurant staff too happy.

Those of you flying or driving in Thursday what time are you planning on landing or arriving in Atlanta? A meeting time for Thursday is the one thing I'm still vauge on other than it will be sometime after 6:00.

Oh, fudge!
I just remembered I have Kendo class on thursday, 8-9pm. That's either have to make me leave early or arrive late....

Or maybe I could just skip that day... I'm sure they'd understand.. >.>

=\

Red Wolf, I'm still waiting on that list.
You going to send it to me?
If not, just tell me so I'll stop expecting it.
Either way's totally fine.

I'll have it after I actually scout out some places this weekend.

And skip the class

Hey, first time for me to go to AWA. I'm setting up my flights right now so I'm doing my best to arrive there on the thursday. Since my college is in Tenneessee it should be a very short flight so I should make the dinner no problem. I'll notify you if I won't make it to AWA till friday though.

Yep, bascially looks like I'll be in on Thursday at about 4:40 pm since that's the best I can do leaving here at 8:10 am!

I didn't get a chance to hit the restaurants this weekend. Between the rain, helping Quu out Saturday afternoon with VAT stuff, and a company rafting trip all day Sunday it just didn't work out in the cards. Next weekend looks good barring weather. We've got just under 8 weeks until AWA, I'm not that worried about a one week delay and I did at least do something AWA productive Saturday :P
