Akon sucked AMV contest was ran like shit. I think a con as big as theirs would work on getting people that knew what the hell they were doing. All though I am happy for the winners namely Carlos "Machine" Carrol (winner of 2 awards) and Mexican Junior. The thing was shitty, all contest footage was shown off of VHS footage not digital. They explained that the VHS was just better as far as quaility goes. ????Guess those people at AWA don't know what the hell they are doing (smile). I think in the future I am just going to Boycot going to Akon Animefest is in September and is ran a hell of allot better then Akon. Sadly both are right in my backyard being that I live in the DFW area.

Akon was pretty cool, I hate that they did the AMV contest on vhs also, the suck big time at doing the contest. As far as akon in general goes, I met up with Carlos and Hitori for awhile. I wish I could have met up with the rest of you but when I looked for everyone, I could only find the two previously mentioned.

Akon was a blast.

Except for the AMV contest where we were subjected to the most horrible sailor moon transformation thing EVER especially with the speakers so loud with us sitting in the front.

The actual contest looked and sounded like a 99th generation fansub. The sound on my video went from low and took until the middle of it to get it normal again. Plus all the distortion made the voices at the end sound all distorted which really disappointed Jon Allen who did the voices.

I feel REALLY bad for the Milo brothers...

Major props to Carlos for winning Best Artistic and Judges Award. 8)

X 2 on both counts. Here is an exert of Julian's thoughts about the con...

Day 1, Friday:

We all go to the AMV contest. There I was subjected to probably the worst fucking videos I've ever seen. The filth was on such a calibur that it was hard to describe in words. I honestly cant even bring myself too. 2 hours of absolute filth. Oh but it gets better.

For those of you who don't know, AKON in all thier infinite technical wisdom only accepts VHS submissions. Once they have everyones terrible videos they copy them onto a master VHS tape that they play through there 2 head VCR.

So before the contest starts the MC yells out "Hey is the guy that made that Buddah For Mary video here?", and Wonka raises his hand. Then the MC says, with a big grin on his face, "Oh man that was a great video but we had some audio problems".

Wonka and I think this is the best joke ever pulled in La Familia history. This happend at last AKON and has practically become a fucking legend in AMV horror stories. So we sit back and watch the videos.

The fuckhead wasent joking. Both Appetite and Buddah had audio volume that jumped from 20-500% every millisecond at all times. Both videos were completely ruined. I entered NBK and War. Both of them got cut for content, which I was expecting with half my mind and hoping for a showing with the other.

After they got finished fucking Appetite in front of a crowd of 1000 people I shouted "WHAT THE FUCK" at the top of my lungs in my scariest boomy voice. It was all I could do to not march through the crowd and strangle that fat bald little motherfucker that was running the projector.

The crowd was the most pathetic part of the entire experience. They reprisented everything that makes me never want to touch premeire again. They were stupid to the point of fury. They would laugh at everything, all the stupid goldenboy penis jokes, all the terrible vidoes, every lip synch, you name it. They would applaud wildley the most horrendous peice of trash on numerous occasions. It really hurt my feelings to know that that is most of Hypeodermic's audience. Call me arrogent, call me elitest. I have absolute disdain for those pathetic, dirty smelling, ignorant, stupid, social anxiety disordered motherfuckers who submerge themselves into JPOP and cartoons that require the mental faculties of a 3 year old because they are outcasted by everyone for being such fucking worthless trash. From grown adults arguing amoungst themselves about Initial D, to the 12 year old who puts a pound of lard in his hair to make himself look like Vash, I hate it. Its sad really. I absolutely abhor, what appears to be, my target audience.

MJ's "Seasons in the Sun" didnt make the cut because the Judges thought it mocked Grave of the Fireflies. This proves my point even more. All these fucking idiots don't even have the mental hardware to understand, let alone appreciate, some of the best art they are given. That video is a masterpeice, and they couldn't even understand it. Oh and this wasen't the crowds reaction, oh no, these were the judges. I'm glad they cut my videos from akon because in hindsight, I don't want those people to see them.

It was absolute bonified psychological torture. We watched probably the worst 50 videos ever made. I'm glad it happend though because it was a real reality change for me. I had no idea the state of affairs was this bad. It is sickening.

LOL!

Alot of it is true but I still had a good time. Winning the hentai fest AMV award made my con. Good times, good times... 8)

BTW, I will be capping some footage of the Hentai fest so people can check out both vids and crowd reaction (it was judged by audience applause). I will try and upload it soon.

This year was incredibly bad, not just for AMVs but their anime viewing selections. Not as impressive as previous years with fan favorites like the Slayers movies or the Utena movie from a couple years back. The only things that garnered any interest were Voices of a Distant Star and Read Or Die / Heat Guy J...and they were just exposition pieces. Most everything else was pretty lame.

Of course that also gives you a pretty good idea of the state of anime coming out (or at least those these companies think you want to see). Why couldn't they show Rune Soldiers!!

Anyway, as far as the AMV thing goes...You all need to remember to keep it in perspective. The reason the contest/showcase was horrible was because of the "new blood" entering the field. So of course these videos are bound to look like crap. Beyond the -technical difficulties- of still using VHS submissions, there aren't that many seasoned makers who submit to Akon.

So just keep that in mind for next year.
