BTW, given the con is at a university, what are the regulations for alcohol consumption on the premises? Are there open bottle rules or is it considered a private institution and exempt from rules regarding public places?

Damn Ian, I haven't even met you, but you sure sound like a partier (cough alcoholic cough) :-P

kwasek wrote:I'm one of the MTT dorks not going to the Alk Trio show. Instead I am going to a Beck concert in Boca on Sunday that will be millions of times better! WOO, whatta weekend!

Cool. I'm guessing that mainly Hsien and the other MTT gang are going to be gone Friday night, but everyone else (yourself, Vlad, Tim, Ian, EK, Rozard and so on) will be there the majority of the con. I'm thinking about flying over since well...I wanna meet and hang out with you guys, but it would suck if everyone was gone...however, that's not the case. Surprisingly, it's less than $300 for me to fly from Austin. That's not that much :-P.

Somewhat related, but I was talking to Hsien and he said you guys usually don't really do anything at the con and don't even register and whatnot. Is this true? I thought there was a VAT-like room and well..the contest and stuff. Not that that really matters since you don't really need to be at the con to hang out. Either way...I can't believe I'm thinking about going since A-kon is 3 hours away :(.

BTW what are the hotel/living arrangements? Anyone?

 Says you.

I'd just go to A-kon and save up for AWA. That way you'll be able to meet everybody.

Well...that's of course true, but well...I talk to half of the creators going pretty much every day and would really like to meet them. It'd kind of suck to wait another 5 months :).

Don't get me wrong, I love the guys going to A-kon, but I've been to two cons with them and hell, I live around most of them :-P.

I see how it is Rozard...if you don't want me around..just say the word :-P

Only for certain cons...mostly the crappy little east coast cons that don't have much in the way of AMV stuff. Like when we went to Neko-con, we were there for all of maybe 2 hours, the rest of the time was spent sleeping/partying.

At a con like JACON where there's con-related things we like to do, namely AMV stuff, then we generally register.
I don't speak for everyone here, I'm mainly talking about the group I usually hang out with at cons.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

Hmm...so there's stuff to do at JACON? I thought it was fairly small and well "we" (as in the AMV creators) would pretty much just be hanging out...whether that was at the con was another question. Vlad tells me there's a place like AWA's VAT which sounds great. Then again, their contest rules seem a bit strict since you can only submit NEW material.

Quu, who runs the AWA VAT, will be at Jacon running a similar AMV machine used at AWA so it is definetly an AMV eventful con. I don't know if they'll have a 24 hour AMV room but there are things to do from the events listed on the con site.

I didn't care too much for the new material only contest rule either, especially since I make AMVs to make them and turn them into contests I'll be attending for the extra fun of it. But it isn't like I have a load of good AMVs under my belt anyway so no big loss for me.

Oh cool! Because my vids are premiering at ACen two weeks earlier and hence were "disqualified." I guess I'll bring a CD or something if there's an AMV room or something. Wow that shure sounds a lot cooler than A-kon in the AMV area...now of course A-kon is probably better for "normal" Con stuff...which I don't do.

Seriously, though, JACON doesn't officially kick off until Friday at 5:00 PM so is anyone interested in getting together for a Friday lunch?
