Do you have to be physically present at anime conventions...

This forum is for the announcement and discussion of anime conventions, and for the exchanging of rides to, and rooms at, conventions.

Ok... here's my position. I so want to go to some conventions this year but on the 25th of March I'll be leaving for boot camp and after that I'll be in tech school for at least an addition 5 months. I would like to enter a video I'm working on but physically showing up would be impossible for me. After all my work do you guys find it unfair for me to do something like this?

Oh by all means submit. First off, it is your video and no matter what we think, you should do what you want. Also, your case is a bit different than the ones I am thinking about. I'm more frustrated when I see someone submit to like 10 cons (some times submitting just for the hell of is) to win 1 measly award. I mean...sending mindlessly to conventions to win vs. someone who *really* wants to see their work (a local) is a bit different IMHO. I'd be rooting for the person at the con since well..they're there :).

:) Thanks, I planned to send it out but I mostly wanted to see what others thought. I didn't want to upset anyone.

If it's your 'local' conventions then send it to them. You may not make it but your friends will. Ofcourse your lucky you'll technically have 2 local areas. Your home and then your boot camp area. (You don't know if you may get a weekend off and can slip away to a convention). <shrugs>

At Otakon's AMV Contest we'd almost always receive at least one submission each year from an anime fan with an APO (Army Post Office) mailing address. It's no big deal: even though the bulk of our submissions come from Maryland, Pennsylvania & New Jersey, we've gotten AMVs from people in Canada (several winners, in fact), the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Japan, and once from Germany.
