Just seems unfortunate that some people vote for a "studio" rather than the video.
They vote for names they recognize to save time or whatever.
I don't know how to generate more interest than average in my announcements and opinions (i.e. constructive criticism) is more difficult to come by anymore.
I've been a part of this community for almost six years and feel like I have yet to be noticed in spite of the people who recognize me at the conventions.
*sigh*
I dunno...

I was kinda of curious about this, so I made a note of stats just as the VCA started. Views are all methods (local, preview, direct, etc) combined:

Pickled Penis (was in semi-finals, didn't make it to final)
When VCA's started: Right now:
898 hits 1010 hits
114 stars 170 stars
3.73 star average 3.66 star average
177 views 245 views

DSM-IV 295.3 (was in semi-finals, not finals)
Before: Now
1019 hits 1122 hits
133 stars 173 stars
3.62 star average 3.5 star average
194 views 246 total views

Longed for him. Got him. Shit. (made it to finals)
Before: When finals started Now
878 hits 1068 hits 1214 hits
127 stars 156 stars 196 stars
4.02 star average 4.02 star average 4.02 star average
(A note on star average, it did fluctuate some. Between 4.0 and 4.3 IIRC. Just happened to be the same each time I recorded it)
131 total views 295 total views 369 total views

For comparison sake, during the same time a video not in the VCAs at all (Is it too late to jump on the shinkai train.prproj) gained 10 hits, 1 star, no change in star average, and two views.

I'll leave it to someone else to draw conclusions from any of this, other than the obvious conclusion that even with VCA's, I could get more people to view my video if I put it on the shitass local cable channel at 4am.

Well, before we finalize everything it looks like we need to break two tie votes! This is actually the first tie votes we've had in the VCAs since 2007.

We close the vote runoff 11:59am March 10th. Click here to go to the vote runoff page, and break our tie! :)

I voted Mirko. Ileia has helped me before but Mirko was more helpful last year (especially with a certain remaster project - WHAT UP).

That's absolutely amazing that there's two ties - either some astronomical odds at play or some woefully low vote totals.

actually im not surprised, for my is not a storytelling amv, more like lyrical sync, just take it this way, if you turn off the volume, you won´t understand a sh*t of it :| , but is just my perspective

and I voted mirkosp, thanks to him I learned to use vdub :)

This reasoning is wrong.

Let's take a look at another visual story telling medium.
Movies.

Unlike AMVs movies have scenes specifically shot and edited in order to compliment the story of the movie.
However, many movies also would not make a lick of sense if you turned the volume off. Does this mean they have bad storytelling? No. That would be stupid. It means it uses a COMBINATION of both audio and visual to tell a story.

Let's take for example, A Christmas story. It is a classic Christmas tale of Ralphie, who want's a red rider BB gun for christmas but everyone keeps telling him he won't get one because he'll shoot his eye out. However, I would not have understood what was going on at all if I could not hear the Narrator of the film connecting it all together.
Big fish was an excellent story, perfectly combining visual aspects, Dialogue, and narration, but if I had it on mute I would think it was the most dreadful incomprehensible thing I have ever seen.
Stand by me, yet another great example.

If we compare these to a film like Commando,
Yes I can understand commando without the volume. Because the story of commando is "They took Arnold Schwarzenegger's Daughter." That is the whole story.

But your reasoning seems to indicate that Commando is better at story telling, because it is so simple i can tell what is going on without audio.

This to me seems faulty.

I also realize that whatever I type now doesn't make any difference for reggie's video, but hopefully it might change at least one attitude towards these things for the future.

Muting audio on a medium that is meant to combine audio and visual elements to determine effectiveness in storytelling is dumb.
It would be like turning the TV off when watching Airplane and only listening to the audio and wondering why it isn't as funny as everyone says.
