It came a quite a surprise.

Postby James Sharp » Tue Feb 23, 2010 9:10 pm

I have been a anime fan for a while now (started back in 02) and i must say i have seen quite a bit of anime.

Some of my favorites are (forgive spelling errors):
Ra Zephon
kimiganazomi eian
elfen liad
last exile.
eureka seven.

suffice it to say I have seen alota anime.. and alota good anime at that.

so my anime tastes are pretty refined.

Now to my main point. Out of curiosity one day i got ahold of the entire cartoon series avatar the last airbender.

and well i have to say after watching the entire series i was amazed.

granted the show is made for a lower age demographic so there is alota "toned" down type stuff.

But holy crap the story and content is very VERY good.

I was blown away by it.

Anyways. i was reading a bit of hate that users here have posted on these forums about the show. and i must say i think its pretty pathetic to hate on that show just because its not from japan.

to have that much hate for a show just because its american made and "resembles" anime. is just silly.

anyways i will say it. while avatar the last airbender is not an anime. it certainly has the heart of an anime

and I can pretty much promise if that show was ever made into a "real anime" by some japanese studio and had all the kiddy shit pulled out. most the folks who hated on it would shit themselves because it would be one of the greatest anime to ever exist.

So my apologies for this post i just hate it when people pick on something that for all intensive purposes does not deserve it in the slightest bit.

I don't think it's so much hate as it is that the point of the site was to catalog anime music videos, which by definition of anime must come from Japan.

I mean, I've seen plenty of Avatar vids come around here, they just can't upload them, and we get a direct/indirect link instead.

Odd, because the people who I know that like anime like Avatar as well. Actually, I wasn't aware that so many anime fans were dissing it because it's American-made. It's the only American-made cartoon out there that's half-way decent.
Some people simply don't like plot and some of the boring cliches that are thrown in every now and again, which could be a reason why. Also, Half the people here are at least over the age of 15, and Avatar isn't really mature enough for some of them. Anime has a very wide variety that can pretty much satisfy all age groups.
Don't know where you heard people dissing on Avatar only because it's American made. :? I think everyone can agree that that's pretty silly to do so, even if you don't like the show for some other reason.

And true, Avatar has been influenced by many anime. It's only natural that it would be liked by so many anime fans, other than the fact that it's being hated on because of where it was produced ?? I'm still confused on that matter... xD

Last I checked they're not even allowed in the catalog as they're not AMVs. Links?

Donator's Forum lets people release whatever they want, and They could technically alongside AMV Announcement's Forum alongside a real amv announcement. I know I've got about 4-5 from this site.

I believe you mean General AMV forum from the Live Action videos from AMVers thread. I got plenty of those and some from the Donator's Forum, but I never got any from the site's catalog. There were some that had non-anime sources, but they also had at least 51% anime.

/edit I also got a few from Anouncement forum, like you said posted with one entered in the catalog, but still, haven't seen any non-anime videos in the catalog with any sort of link whatsoever.

I didn't meant that they get cataloged. I'm aware that they can't be catalouged. I just meant that we get a direct/indirect link to places like megaupload or youtube or something.

While i agree that the show is defiantly a little to childish in some areas, you would have to be blind not to recognize that the show itself is incredibly complex and deep. In fact i think if the show had been made slightly different and catered to a older audience then it really would be one of the best "anime" of all time.

But then again i am not one of the people who consider anime to be a "japan only" thing. I know that is the definition of it. but i strongly belive the time has come for the definition of anime to be changed.

In the past when it was a "japan" only type of thing yes the definition was acceptable. But now anime has hit the mainstream and many different countries and cultures are getting into anime and creating there own.

I think to stubbornly refuse the title anime to a show because of where it comes from is ignorant. thus the meaning for the word anime has to be changed.

just my opinion though.

I don't think many of us disagree, and it's been argued in the past in the "Site Suggestions" forum, it's just kind of futile around here. Luckily, we do have sources like Youtube for our Avatar and similar needs.. :(

Also reminds me of the opening for the Valentine's Day MEP. It got RAVE receptions, but was Korean made [Pucca], and not technically anime. Luckily, it wasn't more than 50% of the AMV, but my point stands that AMV's can use non-anime sources and still be appreciated around here.

We've had this thread several times already. Anime comes from Japan, meaning it has Japanese production values. Boondocks was partially animated by Madhouse, so it is debatable. All Avatar is is an anime-style inspired Nicktoon. Swallow the load, realize that its not all bad, and enjoy's Shyamalan's newest sleep aid.

Being completely rude for almost no reason is also a great way to get your point across.
The last time i checked forums are here for conversation. Why is it that whenever someone brings up an opinion some jackass always has to call out that they need to either calm down or points out some small grammar issues, or both.

its ok to have an opinion. It does not mean the person is getting out of hand.

@code: If you didn't mean cataloged entries, you shouldn't have used the exact terminology we use for cataloged entries that aren't hosted on local. :?
