and actually, Funimation is streaming Ergo Proxy (http://www4.funimation.com/video/?page=show&b=28).
Check out the first few eps and then decide if you want to go out and get it/see if your dad is interested

I'll be hijacking that link!

This thread reminds me of last week when my mom stopped by my apartment. She came to steal some of my movies but walked back to me with Claymore instead.

Is this something I would like?

NO MOM!

The way I shrieked gave her the wrong impression :uhoh:

I asked my Dad to watch Avatar with us the other day and he said "No, no, no, I'm not watching that Japanese Shit," while he waves his hands around. Why he thought it was an anime... I don't know. He said he thought the whole thing was animated.
I've never really tried to show him an anime before, but he's already convinced all of it is stupid. Anything that has a cartoon look, he automatically thinks is anime, and will reject watching it. He's not a very cuddly person, so I couldn't just ask him all nice if he wanted to watch even just a piece of an anime movie/episode. If I ever manage to make him watch something, he usually sits for 5 minutes then gets up and says "Well, I think I've seen enough TV for today."
Too bad

What's funnier is my mom is now convinced that I looove yaoi (not that much). But the funny part is that she pronounces it "yow-way." Sometimes it'll just come up and she'll say, "Oh no, I know your secret. Don't pretend to hide it. I know you love yow-way." But she says it so seriously, so I just laugh.

If my mom was dead tired and in a good mood, I could probably convince her to watch Miyazaki or something. But that's not often, that she's in a good mood and tired. And my dad hates anything cartoon-y, so I basically have no hopes of convincing my parents to watch anime. XD

XDD *pats*
I'm pretty sure my friend's mom doesn't know the contents of the Claymore manga when she buys them for my friend. xD
Somuchgore.

But yeah, I'll check out Ergo Proxy soon.

... :C

Um, so anyways the other day I told my dad about the plot of Trigun. He said that it sounded fairly interesting and that he liked goofballs. xD Since Vash consists of 80% goofballery, I thought that maybe he might actually like Trigun.

After watching episode 1, he could say nothing but, "I'LL NEVER GET THOSE 20 MINUTES OF MY LIFE BACK."

'Guess I'll be looking into Ergo Proxy. XD On the plus side, my brother, also the normal anime hater, bought Howl's Moving Castle and wishes to buy Castle in the Sky along with the Cowboy Bebop boxed set. He doesn't really watch stuff online: he buys it if he has the money. xD
So things are at least looking up for him. C:

Think I hit a raw nerve here :|

Anyway, yeah. No dad, but my mom tends to watch anime every now and then. She doesn't consider herself a fan, but is more than willing to give anime a chance, provided the series isn't heavy on teen angst or fanservice. Among her favorites are Witch Hunter Robin, Escaflowne, pretty much everything Hayao Miyazaki and Satoshi Kon have put out, Black Lagoon (much to my surprise <.<), Last Exile, and Mushishi.

Now father figures I can talk about. Well only one in general. My best friend's dad, Willie, is a big fan of anime. In fact when I was staying with him and his family, it was Willie who introduced me to Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue, as well as Slayers. I tend to loan him my box sets whenever I see a series I think he'd get a kick out of. Right now we're all eagerly awaiting S3 of Black Lagoon 8D

As an anime fan, how do your parents feel about your otakuhood?

They are fine with it.

Do they think you're a total nerd, or do they welcome their child's interest in a very foreign and very unique style of entertainment with open arms?

They definitely think im a total nerd. But, not in a bad way :3 They even know about my amvs, and my mom used to be my beta tester...although now that ive been using vegas and after effects she isn't at a level to critique them anymore.

I want to know how you're parents feel about having a basement-dwelling nerdchild who likes making edited-together music videos from clips of their favorite anime, and secretly touches himself to two-dimensional Japanese pornography.
THATS ONLY ON TUESDAYS

For me, that would be Death Note. For a while my dad refused to endorse my brother and I's anime watching. He was certainly okay with it, but whenever he was watching Football and I turned the anime on, he'd leave the room. When he saw me and my brother watching Death Note, though, he completely changed. He fell in love with the show, I was actually kind of scared. Now, my dad is not afraid to drive us to Otakon each year, because he knows that his children fit right in with the 20,000+ anime nerds who go each year. It just warms my heart.
Can my dad meet ur dad at Otakon 2010 so they can blab about death note all day? :awesome:

He would definitely not be bored if you did that. I can talk to him about whatever anime I happen to be watching all the time and he'll listen to me. I think that after he saw Death Note, he kind of recognized anime as a respectable art form capable of exploring deep and philosophical ideas, not just random nonsense we see in today's childrens cartoons. He usually seems genuinely interested when I'm explaining to him the events of the last episode I watched or whatever.
