Fruits Basket: Anime or Manga?

Postby xPiikanyaa » Sat Sep 26, 2009 2:53 pm

Yeah, so we all know Fruits Basket is an awesome series. But which is better, the anime or the manga? Although the manga has more detail, and carries on for much longer than the anime (The anime only goes up to volume 6 or 7 in the manga), I prefer the anime since it's funnier and the characters look cuter (Especially Kyou :D <333). What do you think?

Oh, no question: the manga ^_^ why? do i need a reason? lol, well every character has such a solid background, and the manga has an amazing ending while the anime left me wanting more. Both are amazing, but I definitely prefer the manga :D

the anime = terrible, imo. :|
It cuts out more than half of the manga; the characters are much more boring in the anime; both english and japanese dubs suck. The whole anime was just plain booooring.

The manga's drawings got much better about halfway through, therefore it became a lot more enjoyable. There is more humor, more drama, and the characters are much more interesting in the manga.

Manga > Anime.

This shouldn't even be a question. The manga is loads times better than the anime in just about every way... nothing that the anime has that the manga doesn't except an opening and ending song, which I liked.

Dameon Clarke is in one episode of the anime.
Therefore, the anime.

Keep in mind that I only like the Japanese anime. The voices in the English dub are annoying. :|

I prefer the anime. It's cute, colourful, and if you're hesitant on reading over 20 volumes of manga, it's a good place to start. I love both, personally, I just found it frustrating that in the manga, *every* character (even the unimportant ones) had to have their own backstory, saturated in what I'd say was 99% angst.

Don't get me wrong, I like angst, but I thought there was just too much going on. Plus, after a while all the characters started to look the same. Perhaps I'm biased, since I waited for each book to be released (which was like, 2 months or so apart?) which made it difficult to remember plot details.

Has anyone else noticed how much the artwork style changes during the manga? Some characters looked totally different by the end!

The manga, on every level.

Yeah. I remember getting Volume 14 or something awhile back and staring at one page, thinking, "... Is that Kyo? ... Nah, can't be. ... Is it?!" Ms. Takaya's art style changed as the manga series progressed, yes. She was deciding to change to a new art style about halfway through the series (which I loved, becuse it looked quite unique in my eyes compared to other art styles), and it was good that it changed, because it showed how the characters grew up quite well.

Yes, she obviously improved. It was nearly painful to read the volumes below 14. I think her new art style is much more mature, in a good way.

Reminds me of Black Cat, Rouroni Kenshin, Love Hina, Negima, if to name a few. As the volume number increased so did the prowess of the art. After reading the final few volumes, it gets harder to read the beginning ones.
