Good night, sweet prince.

This'll leave only two remaining juggernauts in the industry. Bandai and Funi.

It's less a shutdown and more a reorganization under a different name, after that disastrous falling-out with Sojitz last year.

Fuck you. Fuck your mother.

Hopefully the new company decides to keep using the ADV Films' name, considering the respect it garners from people like me.

The Mod should re-title this thread as ADV restructures, that's what they're doing. They'll still release DVDs and the properties they own, they'll just be doing it through another company.

Just another reason to support the idea that anime retail needs to start thinking outside of the box in a big way.

Otherwise it will only get worse.

You know, I think this can all be credited to FUNimation's attempted takeover of the world.

And I hope they're happy.

I think its' because they have their most popular franchise's price jacked up (Evangelion, that means YOU!) $80 for the box set. That's a lot even for ME.

More like they've released Eva 10 different times and by the time they found out everyone owned it 4 times, no one wanted to buy it anymore.
Just to let you, Eva is not a franchise, it's just the same thing being retold over, over, and over again. How many times can you retell the same story?

Fixed, seriously. Bandai still has occasional DVD glitch issues and make solicitations that keep on getting pushed back.

Even with the quality control issues Bandai-Ent is having, I still see them more successful than Viz. You won't see much variety of genres from Viz since all they stick to is the shounen and shoujo stuff. Plus they're more manga than anime. Bandai-Ent on the other hand, picked up 3 of the hottest mecha titles which is Code Geass, Gundam 00, and Gurren Lagann that all aired on TV. So there's no way I can see Bandai-Ent can be beaten by Viz.

Viz is only good for manga and live action, IMO. And knuckle-headed ninjas. Viz has like 3 popular shows and thats about it.

If I understood the article correctly, thats not possible, since an entirely different company (not the new ones that stemed from adv), the one that had owned 20% of ADV that started this whole mess, now owns the name ADV Films.

I can't say that I loved ADV, but its always sad to see competition leaving the scene, more competition is better for us the consumer. Hopefully anime corporations will start looking into alternate methods of distribution, such as online (cronchyroll anyone?) instead of refusing to change with the times.
I know I would be all over HD downloadable content as long as its HQ, softsubs, and dual audio. I would buy alot more than I do now. (unless the prices were just ridiculous)
