Ok, there are a lot of manga series out there which don't really have a storyline, they are just made up of a lot of chapters of separate incidents that don't really have any connection to each other (aside from introducing more characters). The just finished to love ru is an example. I really liked the manga cause while it was rapedative (as many fanservice manga are) it was enjoyable. However i quickly got bored with the anime because it ended up just being a ton of fanservice. here is the reasons why a fun manga can turn into a bad anime.
the problem is that there is no actual storyline, each chapter is basically it's own one shot episode. also, the chapters are VERY short, you could put all their content into a 12 minute episode, so the anime has to figure out how to turn those into full episodes, basically they just stick in a lot of fanservice and random conversation, but it makes the quality go down overall. they should make their episodes divide in half so they can put 2 separate chapters into one episode, the 2nd season of full metal panic actually did this with a few of its episodes, having 2 mini episodes contained in one, and it was great, cause there was no needless material in them, just a bunch of quick laughs.
Another reason why good manga can't be turned into good anime is that the content is too over the top. Manga typically has a lot more blood, guts, sex and nudity than anime, and it gets to a point where the rating of the series would go into adults only if they actually included all the material (berserk is a good example lol, just about every character in that series gets raped at one point in time, graphically in a few cases). Anime production companies want to get as big an audience as possible so they want teen ratings, or at most a mature rating. In order to get these they have to tone down a lot of the material, even cutting out many scenes cause they are just too extreme. While this may make it watchable by the general public it really annoys the manga fans as they KNOW what it is supposed to be like and when you get the diet coke version instead it is disappointing.
anyway, just my observations on a few things, any thoughts on this?
