You say that as if it can't be both.

No you didn't. The British did. Is your country so pathetic that the only thing you can brag about is actually something a bunch of limeys did?

So you calling us limeys?? :nono:

I have other phrases to describe the British, but I don't feel like getting banned yet again so I stuck with just using limey.

Fair enough, me not knowing what limey means by your terms I couldnt care less. I also have a few phrases to describe Americans but I dont really feel like spouting races comments over the internet.

And arent we all getting side tracked from the topic thread?

Good grief Hasteroth, if you're going to lecture people about something like history, you at least have to know it :)

I almost liked godix lambasting you there :)

We have the old broad on our money still, but heck she's barely worth anything today to the British let alone her past colonies.

Because of my history background, I always have to temper my interest in Japan, with my knowledge of their behaviour in the previous century. They didn't make a lot of friends back in the 20s, 30s, and 40s. And the LAST thing you want to be, is a Japanophile in China or Korea (regardless of how many Koreans don't mind being there currently).
Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually agree with Sukunai. Knowing how Japan acted in the not so distant past, and Japanese attitudes today about those actions, does a lot to sour any 'japan is the greatest evar' feelings.

.. where ever you go these days, there are good and bad ways of thinking; I've traveled
around this world enough times to Not Judge Values .. but pay attention to Attitudes!

( i.e. A sour-puss is a sour-puss. who cares if they are a Smart or Dumb sour-puss, they are a sour-puss! )

.. I like many people while wanting to avoid others with all-cost's; its just human nature!

It really depends on who you learn from. Some teachers can be ignorant jerks. I don't think that's a secret.

Silly Americans think they won the war... ahem no they didn't, nobody won.

American Goal for war of 1812 was to conquer Canada to stop British impressment of sailors, stop British restrictions on US trade, and to stop Britain from arming Native Americans, that failed on all but one of the goals.
Canadian Goal = defence of Canada, that worked out. To do whatever their british overlords told them to do

Canada Britain didn't gain anything so we they admit to not winning, although to them the war was a minor side quest to the Napoleonic Wars so they didn't really care. The Americans gained nothing, they simply broke British support of Indians in territories the US was expanding into but failed in their other goals., they simply got back the land that WE took from them AFTER the war started. Both sides returned land they had conquered during the war.

Neither side got anything, the war was a waste of time. People died for no reason (much like most wars). The Americans were the bad guys this time. Both sides had rather deplorable motives.

The war was foguht on North America by the Canadian Militia with soldiers sent from Great Britain, it was still technically the Canadian Military. although the Canadian Militia fought invasions of Canada they had little role in other theaters of the war

Put simply,we the British burned the White House.

And no, not half french, only 23%.

Fixed. Somewhat. At least the major problems. So tell me, is Canadian education so pathetic that they actually teach the shit you were spewing or did you just fail history?

History is always written by the winners. And when neither side wins they each write their own history, think about that then talk to me. I used to think there was actually some intelligence behind the (for lack of a better word) "asshole" exterior. Seems I was proven wrong.

And to explain what i said. The British... probably don't care. The Canadians claims that nobody won and that we burned the White House (In light of current information, this may or may not be false, I am not inclined to take either side (any longer)). The Americans say it was the British that burned it and most of the time they claim that they won it. And The Canadians were trying to defend Canada, it wasn't about doing what the British overlords said (and yes they were probably "bossy"). If let's say Russia were to suddenly invade America and let's say that America was still a British colony (No meaning behind this, purely hypothetical). Would America defend because Britain said so? Or would they defend because their homes are being attacked?

Do you honestly think that Godix is going to sit and debate history with you?

Get out while you can.

If I thought he could hold his own in a debate or actually bring anything to it other than pure stupidity I actually would. But he can't, so I didn't.

Wow, whatever.

On topic: Anime did bring an interest towards Japan when I was younger, but to be honest I'm not such a big fan. Interesting culture and language, but I don't think I'd like to travel there, unless I win the lottery and decide I want some goodies I can't find on Ebay.
I'll live happy if I don't.

Not much to see there for me.
Ooh boy, I forgot I had an account here.
