Also known as "When They Cry".

It's creepy. The storytelling is slightly disjointed. Very "Pulp Fiction"ish in not telling everything in order, yet it makes sense.

I like it.

Tenjo Tenge, Burst Angel, Dead Leaves (maybe FLCL- it's not really action but it's short and not boring), Mezzo? no, but it looks like Mezzo (but a movie and hell of a lot more vulgar where there is a clean and not clean version) oh crap what is it? You should try Mezzo too. Gunslinger Girl? Not even sure if I named that right lol. ROD (OVA's are more action oriented, but imo suck).

I personally suggest Macross (Plus would probably be the best one to get, unless you download Zero... and Frontier the original series isn't necessary, it, along with everything else, is summed up in Frontier). The dif between Macross and Gundam is the battles in Macross are quick and brutal whereas in Gundam (most series', I liked 0070) they play the drama out like DBZ (multi episode battles) :/. If you like Macross, Crest of the Stars is the same. Don't get Banner of the Stars (and further sequals) unless you love Crest's story. As I recall Banner isn't action oriented. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimaya may be action enough for you... it's not really action though, but like FLCL there's not really enough substance in it to call it anything :)

Oh lighten up. Go watch them. I don't know very many people who haven't watched at least one of those shows. Whether they like anime or not. Most people at least watched the American Cardcaptors and seriously, who hasn't watched Sailor Moon back in the day? I was very close-minded before, I only watched action anime for a long time, then suddenly I picked up a copy of UFO Princess Valkyrie Vol. 1 DVD at Kei-Kon and suddenly I suddenly I realised that light fluffy (and full of fluff) anime can actually be fun to watch. Slice of life anime such as Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh, Parodies such as Hayate no Gotoku, Romances such as CLANNAD, Magical Girl anime like Shugo Chara!, Drama's like Kimikiss and so on and so forth can be really really good.

PS. Let's not forget Moe anime like Bottle Fairy.

AMG is actually a mix of shoujo and shounen (not in one, the OVA and movies are more shounen or action oriented while the TV series is more... girly. IMO but I think that's the case anyway). Much like Escaflowne.

For the noobs TV series' are usually in multiples of 24 (or 26) ie 24, 48, 72.... and it usually says TV after it xD

I can't stress enough how cool Michiko to Hatchin is. Also, Valkyria Chronicles seems promising. Don't watch Bartender, it's crap.
