What to Buy?

Postby Jace Tsunami » Wed Jan 01, 2003 1:08 am

What to buy what to buy, this is the question.

We don't exactly have good sroce of anime in the states, especialy since no one is signing the petition in my sig for a channel. Anyways with that said I'm looking for something new that I'll like to buy, not something massive to ik knshin or dbz, something nice and petite between 6 and 8 dvds like bebop and trigun. Here's what I like so you guys know my tastes, and what I have :?

Gundam Wing
Trigun
Escaflowne
Cowboy Bebop
Bubble Gum Crisis Tokyo 2040
Slayers
Movies for Gundam and Esca
and the first 53 eps of DBZ (the only two box sets)

Where should I venture next? I considered buying Outlaw star, it's only 80 bucks but I've seen it all already. What do you guys think is the next best step in the world of anime?

I would take the Escaflowne set, but I'm pretty sure that's amazingly expensive. I saw one, and it was so expensive. I think they get away with that, since it comes with a Black Escaflowne model figure. The Gundam Wing set is 10 DVDs I think. Not bad either...

Maybe Ronin Warriors if you want some old school... Ranma 1/2 is also ok...or maybe a bebop box set?

GW's 10, so as not to confuse anyone. But what's cool about Hellsing?

have bebop

I think ronin wariors is too power rangerish, ranma's a little to cartoony for me. I like it but it's not serious enough.

Everything!! Hellsing is about as massive and crinos as they come.

BTW, there is no need to spend crinos amounts of cash on DVD's. Get on ebay, You can find anything so totally cheep you'll wet yourself. As a matter up the full Box set of Fushigiof fact I just picked Yugi, Both season and all OVA's, for only $81. Just be careful and do some research, you want to be sure it's a DVD and not a crappy ass VCD incognito! For the most part I have been quite pleased with the results, only twice have I gotten screwed, and both times I should have known better.

See my post in "Heads Up" re: the Media Blasters sale at The Right Stuf.

Among the Media Blasters DVDs, I'd seriously suggest getting Elf Princess Rane if you don't have it yet. It's way over the top and one of the best anime dubs ever made. Magic Knight Rayearth is also good, but Magic User's Club is even better.

ex-Driver isn't too bad except the animation is often low quality. Shinesman is a lightweight parody of the Power Rangers, but the dub track has some great one-liners (same voice team as Rane). Kurogane Communication looked interesting, but I've watched only the first episode.

i can see that jace likes basically serious yet a lil light-hearted anime, so i'll give my 200-won (means "two cents" in korean, damn economy.. :? ):

Gundam the 08th MS Team (just beautiful. better animation than GW, methinkz)

Record of Lodoss War (sorta like an epic tale or whatever.. it's great)

Tekkaman Blade (futuristic-mecha-fighting anime, but not too bad)

Macross Plus (the movie) (sorta like the orginal Macross/Robotech series, but a huge improvement in overall look and it ups the drama factor)

i'd name more, but that'll just ruin the point of my post. Good luck finding an anime you'll like!

Of course it was better, any gundam fanboy can tell you GW was shit. All regurgitated crap from the previous series. The only thing worse was Turn-A. That just urges me to harm things. Small... innocent things.

you may enjoy the Kenshin OAVs (2), Ninja Scroll (movie), FLCL (3), Lain (4), or if you feel like buying HK boots, Angelic Layer (5)

Mafic Knight Raye Earth and record of Lotoss War are looking good. I've heared lots of stuff about both of them. As for 08th Ms team, I've seen it all, so I kinda have the same views for outlaw satr. I'd love to buy it and own it, but I really want to get into something new. Hellsing seems like ana wsome anime, but my experience with japonese vampire stuff isn't so great. I've seen 3 things and only like one. I saw the vampire hunter d movies, blood the last vampire and something else. The only series I liked was vampire hunter d.

So yeah thanks for all of your guys help. I just finished watching all of Escaflowne and it set kind of a mood, so I'm probbaly gunna pic RoLW, or MNRE. Thanks again guys, it was truly helpfull.
