I gotta say that Miyazaki's films have lots of beautiful music. I loved Castle in the Sky's the most probably.

If we are talking about "beautiful" music, anything that Yuki Kajiura has done is absolutely gorgeous (dot.Hack\\Sign, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles). If you think "Beautiful" is heavy metal, then Black Heaven is a good place to look.

The Air OST is really beautiful and will move you to tears, just like the series did for me.

Magic Knight Rayearth has to be my favourite overall. The reason being that not only do I love the opening and ending themes, I also love the incidental music. I mean, the themes are great, the orchestration adds such a full sound to it, and the music sets the mood perfectly. It comes in when t should, and doesn't last longer than it needs to. I could have just downloaded all the image songs and the OP/ED stuff, but I used to have every single MKR CD released downloaded, because not one song from the anime was bad.

Apparently the most beautiful music in anime is Kenji Kawai's (mainly Ghost In The Shell, PATLABORs, ~i wish you were here~) and Yoko Kanno's (Stand Alone Complex) works. Nonsuch.

Macross, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Noir, well anything by Yoko Kanno with chanting is teh awesome beautiful...

Gundam is good though the sadly unknown Gundam X music (Romantic Mode) takes the cake for me in epic... [love that group title too]

Very funny, but Yoko Kanno has nothing to do with Noir soundtrack, which was contributed by Yuki Kajiura.

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet (if it has, it went unnoticed as I browsed through), but Jigoku Shoujo's soundtracks were pretty damn awesome.
