I brought up something like this in my forum, except that I limited the movie to RK. Lots of reactions, from both sides, but the general consensus was that however it's done, it'll likely turn crappy, perhaps anger the RK fans, but heck, all of us will go there to watch it, regardless.

Furthermore, we couldn't think of anyone who could act the parts (there's a shortage in popular, Japanese actors.)
I'd like to think I'm quirky, but I think I just come off as weird most of the time.

That would be a fucked up movie....... I think i'd like to see it. :P

I wouldn't make a live action anime movie here in the US, ever. I'd have the reaction of the fans to think about, I'd have to find a cast that looks the parts, has name recognition, AND can also act, I'd need a large budget, and have to run it by a studio to make sure it appeals to the important demographics.

Bleh.

But maybe "Trigun" might work as a live action movie.

A movie that I think would work really well is something based off the "Fallout" series of computer RPGs. Giant mutants, raiders, a desperate quest that turns into something bigger, organizations that are saving technology, a hideous villain, and my personal favorite, miniguns - it'd be fucking cool.
I'm out...

I don't think there's been a truly successful anime-to-live action transition and if typical producer brainpower is involved, there never will be.

If you've ever been to an Animation Hell event, the list is varied and sordid:

Dragonball (suck-ass HK film)
Fist of the North Star (suck-ass HK and American films)
Golgo 13 (at least two Japanese films, which didn't totally suck, thanks to Sonny Chiba)
Tetsujin 28 (Gigantor) and Mighty Atom (Astro Boy) both had suck-ass live action attempts made.

Giant Robo and Iria: Zeiram don't count, because live-action versions came first.

Not even Gundam is safe: G-Saviour isn't exactly Oscar-caliber.

And don't forget, the DBZ live action movie will also suck.

They casted Jet Li for Vegeta, for christ's sakes! I would have preferred all the orignal Seiyuus be the cast, but since this is an American movie, they couldn't cast the seiyuus.

Why would you want to? Odds are they'd look even less like the characters they portray.

*tries to picture Toriyama chars in live-action* Ye Gods! The horror!!!

Also, add Ninja Scroll to that list...found a story last year that one of the smaller studios got the rights to do a live-action version
*goes to dig it up*

Why CGI? Just stick with regular 2-D animation...

I agree, but venture to say, they might pull it off. I've been totally against things that belong in an animation format to stay that way but here's the thing. When reading fantasy, the ability to visualize a dragon in anything but anime form was impossible because of lack of "good" visual resources. I never thought something that came that was that unbelievable could be shown in live action......then came Lord of the Rings.
If they can do that, they can, in time, do anything.
I don't thing Trigun would work though. Visually, yes. But as far as the plot, a gun slinger that won't harm others? I don't know. It's not the same when you see someone get a gun shot out of their hands in an anime than it is in a movie. And it's also more unexceptable when the protaganist keeps getting shot only in the shoulders and cheeks.

I was responding to Wolfwood's idea of casting the original seiyuu for the live-action roles.
