If you could get any boxed set for Christmas....

Postby y2kwizard » Sun Dec 01, 2002 11:03 pm

OK. I need you guys' help. My parents MAY get me an anime boxed set for Christmas if I plead, so I'm trying to decide what to get. Sooooo:

If you could have ANY boxed set out there, what would it be? Please take into consideration that my parents are pretty conservative, so extreme violence or sex/nudity won't do...don't suggest LA Blue Girl or whatnot...

But what would you personally choose? Only one I must rule out is Eva, as I'm borrowing the DVD's from a friend, so getting a boxed set kinda defeats the purpose.

Thanks a lot!

Hmmmm... that's a toughie because so many have recently been released. Well, I'd go for:

Trigun
Outlaw Star
Cowboy Bebop
Hellsing (first 3 volumes with box)
Any Robotech/Macross
Gundam Wing

That's all I can think of right now.

Depends on the situation. I'd really like to have the Berserk box set but it's not finished yet :(
Other cool ones though are evangelion, bebop, (impossible to get nowadays) Boogiepop Phantom, Lain, escaflowne, Karekano (not finished yet either) Love Hina, Tenchi Ova's. etc.

Umm, if yer looking to avoid nudity and sexual references, I'd avoid Outlaw Star personally.

In addition to seconding Trigun and Cowboy Bebop, I'd also like to suggest Serial Experiments: Lain and Record of Lodoss War.

One question: wat is Serial Experiments: Lain exactly about? Is it some computer-related anime or something completely different? I'd perfer if you not give me the whole story, just basic background. Thanks a ton!!

lain is (basically) about a girl with a supercomputer and how a version of the internet (the wired) kinda takes over some people's lives. that was really crappy....not the show, i meant my background...its decent.

Serial Experiments: Lain is a slow-moving, psychologically intense 13-episode series focusing on technology and it's relation to humanity; how we make use of it, how we base our lives around it, and how strongly we are tied to it. Mindboggling complex, it is not a series for people who hate to think. It's also one of my personal favorites... ^_^

Lain Iwakura is an extremely introverted 13 year-old student who receives an e-mail from her friend Chisa Yomoda, who kills herself in the very, VERY beginning of episode 1. The other students believe that the e-mails from Chisa are a terriblely sick prank, but Chisa assures Lain that it is not a prank. She wants Lain to cross over into the Wired, the electronic world of pure information which is a second level of society, if not a society in and of itself. Chisa's spirit remains alive in the Wired, and Lain herself seems to have a connection to the Wired, including an alternate personality that makes trouble in the real world. Meanwhile, government agents seem to be following Lain and tracking her every movement. Why are they following her? Why does the world of the Wired reach out to her? Is the Lain that exists in the real world even the real Lain?

Get it and see for yourself. I ain't your momma!!

I would say, Now and Then, Here and There. It is just soo depressing, but hope prevails in the end. It has tons of violence though, but sexual references. Well there are a few, but you don't see anything.

I just have to say, that when I saw the last 2 episodes of NTHT, I really shared a tear, so touching it was. And that really means something!

Peace out,

If i could only keep one of my boxsets, it would be the Cowboy Bebop one. Great story and the box art is stylish and worth the extra $12 I had to pay after the fact. 2nd place would be Love Hina.

The Escaflowne boxset came with an action figure, but it's not one of my fave series (but my wife loves it).
