Yeah! Eva bashing! I love Eva bashing! The only way to enjoy Eva is to NOT think, or at the most think exactly when Anno wants you to and then turn off your brain for the other 90%. Of course, the philosophy majors had fun MSTieing it, so it must have some worth. Although I will never understand how something with the personality of a blowup doll ever became a sex symbol... the audience must be sorely desperate.

For the good of anime Eva should DIE! I don't like going to an anime store where the majority of the store is taken up by Eva crap and I have to wade through piles of half naked Reis to at least find something related to Cowboy Bebop, and, if I'm lucky, Trigun. If only there wasn't so many Unit 01s on the shelves maybe I could find an Escaflowne, but it's too much to ask apparently.

Like I said. EVA is a little too complicated for some people.

*SARCASM*

Yeah, I must be stupid because I don't like eva, I mean, anyone who can understand a movie must therefore like it and the only reason anyone doesn't like anything is because they do not understand it! It all makes sense now!

*END SARCASM*

PS, just because a series makes refrences to an old book does NOT make it complex and does NOT mean it is good.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

Now escaflowne I will bash. It sucked in my opinion. It was like a chick flick made anime series. Vision of Escaflowne though was wycked.

I believe it is complex and it is good but I wasn't referring to you. You've proven you look past the preliminary bullshit. I think you probably did understand the series and genuinely didn't like it. I was expecting a retort from you though :D . I would have excluded you from the original post but then I'd have to have named a lot of others.
Relax man, it all don't revolve around you. 8)

So, I take it I'm now suppossed to yell at you and proclaim how anyone who doesn't like Escaflowne is a braindead idiot and should stick with something fit more for the intellect of a five year old. Then, after that statement, I should add the phrase 'such as Evangelion' in order to give the knife a little twist. That is the game that seems to be playing out here.

Seriously though, I don't much like series that have intellectual themes attached to them as an afterthought on the sixteenth episode. That means I've wasted seven and a half hours of my life wading through filler. Well, OK, five and a half, the first four episodes did establish the universe and was enough for me to figure out where the plot was going to end up. It also would have helped if there was at least one likeable character, that way I could have actually cared about what was going on. You also have Anno who keeps changing his mind about what he was trying to do with the series, so that's always a good sign and definately shows the strength of the story arc.

Eva i dont think matched up to all the hype, but for me at least it was a good series in itself. If u base it on the hype then u might get disappointed. For some part of the reasons they dont like Eva is that all the characters are basically traumatised in the end, while others like it because of that.

Anyway, i pretty much understood the themes, well part of it, but what dissapointed me, would be the ending (both the series & movie). I mean no doubt they were full of themes but, they just didn't wrap up the series as one would expect. Even Eva fans (me being one) was definately dissapointed on initial viewing.

Choice number 3 - A little girl, who is also your great aunt's step sister, is good at cooking, and is also 800+ years old.

Choice number 4 - A complete and total ditz, nice body, but christ is she stupid. Has pointy ears, is a space cop.

Choice number 5 - A mad scientist who is over 20,000 years old, wants to take sperm samples from you, made a daughter using her eggs and some sort of weird squishy brown life form, likes to tie you up with wires and put things in your orifices, and generally makes a complete nuisance of herself. She cool and all, but jeez, she could use some psychological help.

On top of all that, choices 1 and 2 constantly fight over you, and you have no say in these arguments whatesoever.

Would you wanna get involved with any of that? Ummm.... If you said yes, you're kind of abnormal. And don't even try to say I'm wrong about this... Those women are nuts!

(Not to say that Tenchi won't probably eventually fall for one or more of them if he hasn't already.. but jeez, give the guy a break! That's a rough situation.)

Actually, only choices 2 and 5 bother me. I'm particularly interested in the mass murderer chick...
