Akira, or Ghost in the Shell. The animation was just blinding. Just one of the reasons why they were so popular...

those movies arent worth crap compared to vampire hunter d bloodlust, or the series X.

cartainly not Akira, although I must say they did an excellent job on the remastering for the latest DVD and it does look very good.

Robot Carnival -- simply *beautiful* work.. some of the top animators in Japan (at the time - late 80s) were brought together to do a segment that could be basically anything as long as it included robots somehow -- so you get a wide variety of artistic ideas and some simply breath-taking animation.

Art

Postby EarthCurrent » Thu Nov 21, 2002 10:29 pm

As typical, I'm probably mentioning anime titles few of you have bothered to check out (though you really should), but here goes:

If your looking for beautiful artistic visuals then "Kenji's Spring: Spring and Chaos" would definately pop near the top of my list. "Night on the Galactic Railroad" also has some truly beautiful (and odd) art in it. The end of Dog of Flanders when the cherubem decend from heaven is also a gorgeous and deeply emotional work of art.

FLCL just has this amazing quality to it. And I've never seen watercolors (even tho computer-based) in a feature-length movie done so well before as in My Neighbors the Yamadas.

lol, of course, naked lesbian street luge!!

I agree about the art though, it's beautifully animated. Uh, the plot is a mess compared to the series, in many ways (too much stuff in too little time) but it's lovely to watch.

Or you could just check out the "Bachelorette" video and get a quick fix of it that way. :)

have you seen bloodlust? because vampire hunter D and vampire hunter D bloodlust are 2 VERY different movies.

Shamaic Princess was a real visual treat, I'll agree, and I liked the story too.

The background artist for Shamanic Princess was the same as that which worked on VHD: Bloodlust. I can't say much for Bloodlust as a whole, but the backgrounds were indeed spiffy.

I thought Metropolis had some nice animation. Definitely something different from the usual. :D
