Series now in the fansubbed/unlicensed gray area

Postby SarahtheBoring » Tue Nov 19, 2002 6:26 pm

If this is not allowed, by all means lock it :) I wasn't sure.

I'm really not up on what's being licensed when, and I'm bored and up for trying something new. Is there anything in that unlicensed-or-unreleased-Stateside-yet-fansubbed gray area worth a look?

I'm willing to try out anything... except hardcore hentai, thanks, just not in the mood for that. :P

Wait. It was either ADV or Pioneer that licensed it, I know that. Just can't remember which one licensed it.

Good, that's about the guideline I use... sticking stuff in We Bought It To Stick It In Translation Limbo just irritates me. ;)

I just didn't want to come out and say it, because, well, I'm a wimp. ;)

I think both Final Fantasy Unlimited and Full Metal Panic are pretty good action animes. I haven't seen all of FF Unlimited though. I think FMP just got licensed by some company. Not sure who though. Then there is Iketeru Futari, which is a pretty good comedy. Each of its eps are about 5 min or so. I have one more to add. Angelic Layer. I haven't seen very much of this at all, but from what I have seen it looks pretty good. I couldn't find any DVDs or VHS of these animes at www.rightstuf.com, so I guess that meets ur requirment of unlicensed. Angelic Layer did have some Mangas for sale though.

Scryed would have been about 8 billion times better if the animation was a bit darker, the colors a bit blander, and the theming just a tad darker. Overall it was animated like a kids cartoon, but I still like it.

Full Metal Panic was announced by ADV back in April, as well as Angelic Layer.

Oh yes, it has. It's been licensed for a while by the same company that picked up Noir and Full Metal Panic.

Anyone have word on Azumanga Daioh stateside licensing? I don't think anyone has picked it up yet. Anyhow, highly recommended. It's a wacky combination shoujo/shonen high school series. Very funny, great characters (from 10 year cute girl genius Chiyo to incompetent, hyper teacher Yukari-sensei), and nifty art. The fansubbers recently finished the series, so no next episode wait limbo.
