[quote="Nappy"]ovas are really good, and I really like the tv series as well but theres a decent difference in the animation quality, but the story is just as good. If you watch the OVA then the TV series you might think its repeating, basicly they couldn't finish the whole series as OVAs so they made a new ending, if you watch the tv series u basicly want to ignore the last few OVAs.quote]

Quick info here...

Both animes were based on a series of books (also called Record of Lodoss War)

The OAV was based on the books, but not very closely.

The TV Series is much more accurate to the books... but since SOME of the same events were shown in the OAV, they had to redo the scenes despite the fact that the scenes had already happened in the OAV.

Furthermore, since the OAV was made, they tried to start later in the books so that the 2 would mesh slightly...

This information may not be accurate, but it was the explanation I got from my friend who did the subtitles.

The reason they didn't cover it in the OVA is because there's another series out that covers that. I saw the box set for it a while ago, but the exact title skips my mind.

The TV series came out after the OVAs, they knew they couldn't do the entire (manga) series as OVAs due to funding, so they changed the last few episodes to basicly do the ending with the original chars, rather than introduce new chars and switch stories and do all the character development and sidestories of the new group. They then did the TV series true to the manga, and repeated the parts they changed to be more true to the manga.

I'm suprised more ppl haven't seen this, It seems like more ppl have seen slayers which is kinda a parody of lodoss, in that the swordsman is dumb and follows the mage around, instead of mages backing up the swordsman like this and others.

Ohhhhh, ok. See, I have the OVA, not the TV series. I always thought Chronicles of the Heroic Knight was like a continuation of the Story in the OVA, not the story and then a continuation. The trailer for that is misleading :?

Thanks for clearing that up, now I have another set to buy :P

Sorry for reviving this thread. But I just got Record of Lodoss War - first series.

Rocks my socks. Much better then I could ever imagine. Music, feeling and plot.
-Reminds me a little of LotR, but IMO it's just as great!
