Well I don't know the point of this (I guess who cares if there's one).

But what if you took colour out of art (not just anime art)?
95% of the art would be gone at least.

What if you took the letter e out of the English language, or vowels?

Obviously, it is too some extent foolish to even ask, these aren't the greatest analogies, but they analize the pointlessness of such a question.

But if you enjoy pointlessness (believe me I do as much as the next guy), then go right on ahead.

Don't fool yourselves that its anything else though (heck this might apply to more than we think :D )

Actually it has a point, that alot of anime, good or bad, is unoriginal.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

As opposed to the plethora of original programming we see on American TV and in the movies?

I don't mind unoriginality so much as long as it's done well.

I never said everthing on TV was original either, but since the market is bigger there is a wider variety of shows.

I don't know about that either. It seems to me that TV programming seems to come in waves everywhere. The "If it ain't broke, don't fix it motto" seems to be the prevalent one in the broadcasting industry. Whether you're in the US or Japan or wherever, it seems as if they'll beat the dead horse of a concept until it's completely pulverized before starting something else.

The big networks have their contrived reality shows now. Before that it was high stakes quiz shows. And I think there was a trend for comedians who got their own sit-coms. And how about lawyer shows? And shows based around hospitals? And dramas about young people living hedonistic lifestyles?

So yeah, where do you want to go with this "point"? Or is it just a random observation?

Amelia? Big-breasted elf? O_o You're strange. Amelia is neither big-breasted, nor is she an elf. Bing bigger than Lina doesn't mean a whole lot :P

What's been said... also, there are stereotypes out there, and...? Of course there are. There are also several series/movies that DON'T adhere to stereotype.

since when did fanservice not refer to bishonen.

Oh, it jolly well may, but in the general run of things, fanservice of girls VASTLY outnumbers fanservice of boys.

Vastly.

Well if that is the point.

Then you have to realize that there are only so many things you can do in a story.

Even if people ventured out into the few original areas left (which could be understandable and still entertaining) than these would soon be covered and become unoriginal as well.

Just because the context of a show or a few themes which repeat from show to show are not original, doesn't mean the dialogues and stories of many animes aren't immensly original (which they are).

If they start creating original shows with no basis on human reality than these would not be popular to anyone (or very few). The hardest thing to get people to watch is something truly original.

That said there are a few areas/context which I would like to see done, or improved upon.

1. How about historical contexts which aren't really used too much anymore, such as ancient Greece or Rome, or the American Civil War, WWII, etc. or others.

2. How about a show which does the college/highschool thing better, more realistically (I haven't seen a good one yet)?

3. How about a show steeped in philosophy or, focused on art or music?

Just keep following this line of thought, but even doing this you may see why a show focused on philosophy or having it as a background (more so than the usual show does) might not be too popular (though I think I would be interested, if it was done well).

Even give these ideas most of them have been done, just not for a long time or maybe not in animation.

Is there an idea you feel hasn't been done? :? :?:

Mecha's
Martial art's
Refrences to to biblical texts
groups of girls fighting over one guy
and cowboys

Take those out? Simple. An animation that didn't include them. How about NieA_7 ? Or Lain? Or Jin-Roh? Or Memories?

Fanservice and nudity

That would leave out

All of tenchi
Cowboy bebop
Trigun
Hellsing
Macross
Gundam
Evangelion
Ranma
Scryed
Full Metal Panic
Cool Devices
Sailor Moon
DBZ
Metropolis
Spriggan
FLCL
Bio Hunter
Ghost in the Shell
Twilight of the Dark Master
Birdy The mighty
Shadow skill

And these are only the ones I can think of off the top of my head!

No, if you leave out the fanservice and nudity, then you have TV edit versions of those shows, basically. :P

Again, i will defend to the death, that many shows, underneath what ignorant people see, have good stories that don't depend on such things. Like Tenchi. Since when does Tenchi DEPEND on fanservice? Lots of people will say "Oh yay! Look! Ryoko's naked! My life is fulfilled!"

BLAH ON THEM :P

Tenchi is about a lot more, and it a lot better than that. That goes for lots of other titles, too. Look at Hand Maid May! Look at Love Hina! Hah!

And hey, here's a show that has hardly any fanservice, very little ciolence, etc... it would basically remain unchanged from your list...
SABER MARIONETTE J!!!!! That show ROCKS! :) J Again was good, too. And J to X is turning out to be great! All in all, Saber Marionette is stupendous and is unaffected by your list of cosmetic things.
