About Spirited Away

Alternately known as Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi...dang what a mouthfull...

I've recently seen it and I must say that I'm rather impressed. At times I just scratched my head, and other times it made total sense.

The dubs were actually halfway decent for this. Althought whoever played Chihiro was a little bit annoying, what ten-year-old girl's voice isn't?

Miyazaki did a good job on this one. I just wish he didn't have to make Yubaba look so freakishly weird.

So what did you think of it, good, bad, pukish, the best Miyazaki work ever????

I thought it was Tubgirl-a-riffic! Wait, that was that weird scat porn that had the Japanese people wearing masks and cooking poo with eggs...

I haven't seen Spirited Away, so no opinion.

I got to see this at my local movie theater a few weeks ago. I really loved it. I agree that some parts are confusing the first time you watch, but it makes more sense if you watch it again. I also liked the dub (and that Disney didn't change any of the Japanese characters written on the scenery throughout the movie - I think that is a clause in the Ghibli contract with them....)

The scenes with the "mouse" and the "bird" were too funny! Yubaba was just freaky looking... And one part reminded me of the Neverending Story soooo much

I haven't seen all of Miyazaki's films yet , so I don't know if it is his "best work ever" but I will say that it's pretty damn good!

And you should see it on a big screen if you have the chance - I think it adds a lot to the impact of the scenery. (I find this true with almost all anime)

It was really a terrific film. Luckily a theatre in walking distance has it subtitled as well, so I got to see it in it's original langauge on the big screen. I can never pick a favorite Ghibli film since whichever I'm watching at the time is my favorite, but Spirited Away is up there with all the other works.

I can't recommend the movie highly enough. I even bought the special edition Region 2 Ghibli DVD player with Totoro acorn-shaped remote to watch it.
