Does anyone know if "Spirited Away" will be shown in London, U.K.
If so when and where?

Thanks for your help. :D

Well, considering it made over a million dollars playing in only 56 theaters in all of the US, odds are the movie will get noticed and continue to be released more and more places. So far though ive heard nothing official, but there is a good chance that it will be released in the Uk eventually.

That's what I'm hoping for.

That's what I'm hoping for, but if anyone hears anything definitive please post it here, also if I hear something, I'll be sure to post too.

In actuality I usually go to school in New York, but I'm studying abroad here in London, and I've noticed that anime hasn't taken hold here as it has in the states, that's why I'm not sure if it will show.

Does anyone know if Princess Mononoke was shown in theatres here? I think that would be a good gauge if "Spirited Away" will be shown.

I don't know about Spirited away but Princess Mononoke wan't shown here. I bought it on DVD from my local MVC because they had it in on the off chance, in any case I don't think they have ever shown any anime in theatres in the U.K. It would make an interesting change if they did.

Um... then you havent been looking very hard.

Anime that have been shown in UK cinemas:

Akira
Perfect Blue
X:1999
Ghost in the Shell
Patlabor 1 and 2
Urotsukidoji
Nausicaa
Laputa
Kiki
Totoro
Whisper of the Heart
Porco Rosso
Pom Poko
Grave of the Fireflies
Only Yesterday
Princes Mononoke
My Neighbours the Yamadas
Adolescence of Utena
Metropolis
Evangelion Death and Rebirth
Pokemon movies (yes, they count :))

They are usually restricted to arthouse cinemas - none have had a full national release like normal hollywood files - but they have been shown in numerous locations around the country including wales and scotland.

As for Spirited Away, Disney don't own the theatrical rights to it in Europe, they are owned by Pathé. I think a cinema release will happen but at the moment there's nothing scheduled.

I totally 4got about those pokemon movies. Probably because I didn't like them. There was also the Digimon movie as well now I think about it ::Soldier of roses hits herself on the head with a spoon::
Wales and Scotland?? That's a long way to go just to see anime in a cinema. Don't suppose there is one of these theatres anywhere in Essex is there?

I said *including* which means they have been shown all over the cournty.

As for essex, I've no idea. The best place to see them all is london, of course, but as I say there have been showings all over.

The only problem is I have seen these films being shown in other cities (and have seen future listings of Spirited Away to be shown in other cities), however in London I have not found one of these "arthouse cinemas" which shows anime, or have been given any indication that they will show Spirited Away here (at least as of now, who knows in the future).

If anyone knows of a theatre in London which shows anime often, this would also be helpful (I tried looking and will continue, London's big dammit, and less organized than New York).
