Clara Yuri Asaki wrote:If Japan had Disney's technology, that would be insanely high quality! But, you gotta remember, the reason why that Disney movies are so high quality is because they're movies! Most of the animes that we see are just episodes from TV shows. So they can really only be fairly compared to other animated TV shows in America. And plus the art kinda comes from the already drawn mangas. Which isn't all the high quality to begin with. If only every pic in manga and every frame in anime was drawn like Masamune Shirow's art. That would win over any other piece of animated media. Including the likes of that 3D animated movie "The Spirits Within" by Square. (I heard Square was gonna make a Final Fantasy movie... WHERE IS IT? It's about to be 12 FF games and still no FF movie! That FF anime, Legend of the Crystals i think it was, was OK)

Yeah, anime like Perfect Blue, Ninja Scroll, and Princess Mononoke can be compared to Disney movies cause they're all movies too. Despite the high-quality in the Disney movies, the art of the anime still looks better. So, if we could combine the two some how, we could have insanely high-quality anime with a huge amount of animation frames for an even smoother finish. Hey, Square and Disney did team up out of nowhere to make the RPG, Kindom Hearts. Disney has imported one or two animes also. Disney should serious consider teaming up with someone in Japan to make a Princess Mononoke sequel!

Princess Mononoke was said to be the "Star Wars" of animated features. But can they really compare? I mean, it only took 1 Princess Mononoke release to make a great, complete story line! Also, of course, Star Wars isn't animated. But I guess you were only talking about the stories.

A Mononoke sequel? what would happen? i suppose San and Ashitaka would have to have more of a romantic involvement than they did in the first one. That's the only thing i didn't really like about Mononoke, but the tone of the film was kind of tragic anyway, so it wasn't a huge surprise.
You're right about the animation - if only those studios had more money, we might see better quality. But who knows, it might lose some of its uniqueness :)
You were sarcastic about "The Spirits Within?" That was terrible! it wasn't anime either! :( I really don't like the trend towards computer animation. they still need about ten years before they can make wholly computer-animated movies look completely realistic. And Disney should chuck Pixar out of their studios before it's too late.

When I mentioned Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, I was just talking about the fact that if every single frame of animation in an anime was drawn by Masamune Shirow at his best, then that would look even better than something that was computer-generated. Cause even if that movie was boring, the 3D char models were very well detailed and life-like and such. I just don't think that Sci-Fi movies are the only place that 3D animation should appear in. If Capcom would've made the Resident Evil movie in 3D using the same char models from the GameCube Resident Evil game, (and even a story line that actually has something to do with Resident Evil) that would've made a very good name in 3D animation.

I'm surprised no one has tried a cel-shaded anime movie yet.

Here's two pics of Masamune Shirow's work. Not his best, but this was all I could find on the internet right now.

These two are from his Cyberworld Portfolio Adult Artbook and 2003 Calendar, respectively.

Anyone got pics from his 2001 Angel Stars calendar? Those are real cool!

perhaps you forget that the plotline of resident evil is crap; hence the fact capcom wouldn't make a movie, let alone a CG one.

what would be cool is a Guilty Gear X anime (since the plotline would be bacially filling in the blanks, seeing as the game left the story out for some reason).

Yes, the plot line to the Resident Evil movie that was released not too long ago was horrible. Well.. the whole movie was... But the original Resident Evil game that was released way back in 1995 for Playstation had a very creepy and suprisingly addictively story. It was so scary, it was frighting to play... but you couldn't stop cause it would pull you in so effectively!

A Guilty Gear X anime would probably go successful, seeing as how all Game-to-Animes never follow the original story line anyways.

you want an addicting story, just play Silent Hill or it's incredible sequel Silent Hill 2. those are the kinds of horrors that i'm talking about.. there aren't just zombies running around cause they got mutated by some virus, it's alot more philosophical than that. it's really hard to explain.. but if you like good stories, silent hill 2 has one of the (if not the) best storylines ever conceived. simply put, it's incredible.

IT SHOULD BE A FREAKING MOVIE, BUT NOOOOOOOOOOO, RESIDENT FUCKING EVIL GETS IT'S OWN MOVIE WITH SLIPKNOT AND EXPLODING GOTHS AND WHAT NOT. it's a crime, i'm telling you.

Yes, Silent Hill 2 KICKED ASS!!! That would be an awesome idea for a movie!!! (That may as well be better than a Resident Evil movie after all!) Of course, we got the insane looking Silent Hill 3 on the way! I have the E3 preview vid of it, and WOW!!! I'm trying to beat Silent Hill 2 on Hard puzzle and Hard action difficulties before SH3 comes out. OW!

Devil May Cry would make an awesome anime-style movie too! But, we all know that it would be like the Matrix if it was made in America. Which wouldn't be bad, just not original.

Yeah, it's kinda ironic. Despite the fact that the Resident Evil game was intended for adults/Mature audiences, the movie was easily being aimed at punk teens who sneaked the game past their mommies and daddies. That movie was fairly immature.

The new E3 preview? I have the one where you hear someone singing Happy Birthday in the beginning.

I can't believe how much the graphics have increased!! It's just gets creepier every sequel!

yeah, it is a brand new preview. and as my brother said, it does have really incredible music and, as you said, the graphics are incredible. you really should download the new peview

but in the preview, it shows a small portion of the gameplay itself, and it looks just as crappy as 2 did. you move really stiff and you shoot at awkward angles. but we all play it for the story. right? RIGHT?!

You get a little better control on Silent Hill 2 if you switch the control type to 2D instead of 3D. In 3D control type, the game plays like Resident Evil. In 2D control type, it plays like Devil May Cry.

I like Silent Hill for its intense freakiness, and of course story. The puzzles make it more fun too.

Not a movie, but someone has.
