okay i recently been hearing alot about anime as far as dubed versus subbed and i got one question, what is the problem with either? i listen to both and i must say they are both fine, i started on dubbed and i used to think it was the only way to watch anime, i wanted nothing to do with subbed, but after i actually started to watch both with frequency i made the judgment that anime is anime and dubbed or subbed doesn't matter. but apparently there are both extremes people who only watch dubbed and people who only watch subbed. whats the big deal i mean wer'e talkin anime one of the gretest things to ever discover why you gotta discrimate against either? and i'm not gonna start a dubbed versus subbed argument my question is why is one better than the other?

Very good point -- there are lots of good things about both subs and dubs, if you're willing to give both a chance.

It's just that some dubs aren't worth the time of day. Some dubs are definitely worth it though. Gundam Wing, Tenchi, etc...

For me it really boils down to two things: quality and consistancy. If the english voice actors really put energy into their roles, then there's a good chance I'll prefer the dub over the sub for that particular anime. That is, unless there are significant changes to the actual script in the english dub translation.

Take Excel Saga for example. The dub is pretty good, although I've heard better. However, I noticed at several places throughout the first 5 episodes that the translation for the subbed version was quite different from the script that was read by the english voice actors. For this reason, I favor the sub, but I'll still watch the dub on occasion due to its memorable moments. ("I love you...so...f*cking...much." -Excel)
