Yay! Yay! War!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think this is "war." I've seen wars and then I've seen wars. This isn't war, its an excersice of my US First Right. Also this isn't even a debate, its much to orderly.

Anyway, I actually find this very educational. All these Opinions on sub's and dub's really do make for a good way to pick up on which anime dub/sub is crap and which ones are worth watching.

sub for enjoyment watching.. and of course dub or raw for AMV action.. unless of course you've got some angle going where just the right scene with it's subtitle makes your video... so I'd say both have a use.

I pretty much prefer subbed all around. But I've watched pretty many dubbed and there were a few times it didn't bother me that much. I started off watching dubbed, but one day I decided to watch my favorite DVD subbed, and it was so much better :) . It was the Record of Lodoss War OVA... the Japanese voices just fit so much better.

Both definately have their benefits. I can't remember a situation where I actually missed something because I was reading the subtitles, though. Reading them is now almost a subconscious effort. I glance at the words down at the bottom of the screen and then look back up while the words process. So I sometimes don't even notice the difference between subbed and dubbed :D .

when dubs are done well they are better than subs, but when done poorly they can really ruin any good show. Whereas subs are the default, they cant be bad, nor can they be better than a good dubb....

examples of good dubbs are NGE and kenshin. I dont really like the 'funny voices' dubbs.

I was referring to people who *only* watch one or the other and never give dubs or subs a chance. Some people, even if they do give a dub a listen, they have so many predispositions about it that they'll never find anything good in it. And that's what I call narrow-minded.

I *do* care about anime. Of course there are dubs out there that I really don't like (Magic Knight Rayearth, for one - but that's just my opinion) and subs that I think aren't so great either. I was just stating that I give both a chance before I judge it.

Subs, dubs have always horrible voice actors, and subs are usually so much better.

If subs are the only alternative then I take subs, if dubs are the only alternative I take dubs, I don't mind either but that is why I buy DVDs that have sub and dub on it. SInce i was raised on dub I will be on dub side even though some dubs are crappy but some are good too.

I've always loved the Subs more because of the much more passionate voice acting, but then I saw Excel Saga. Amazing Dub!!! This may be one Dub that clearly and fairly wins over the sub. The Sub is really really really GREAT and COOL! But the Dub is SO WELL MADE AND AMAZINGLY GREAT! It's actually funnier in Dub, despite how hilarious it already is in Sub!

After watching both Excel Saga DVDs many times in both languages, I think I've come across some nice comparision info. (That includes the first 9 eps)

Not only does the voice acting have to be good, but the voices must actually fit thier chars. Hyatt from Excel Saga kinda has a little problem there, but a very little problem. Also, I think Illpallazo's english voice fits him better than his Japanese voice. The Japanese voice is a little bit too cold and military-like. The Puchuus sound funnier in English too.

There also seems to be a problem where a dubber only knows how to read the script outloud OK, but really doesn't actually voice act it out. (Iwata from Excel Saga does this alot) A good dubber is ok, but a great one who's not afraid or embarrassed to voice act with full-heart and who puts only the best into thier voice will take this to the extreme. (Excel's dubber, Jessica Calvello - BEST ANIME ENGLISH DUBBER EVER!!! SHE IS SO COOL!!! If not the best, then at least BEST ANIME FEMALE ENGLISH DUBBER. But then agian, Lina's dubber from ADV's The Slayers Motion Picture was pretty awesome too.)

Also, the script must be more than just a simple translation. Use something other than extra and repeated words to fill the blanks too. If you watch Excel Saga in subs first and memorize it kinda, when you watch it in dub, they'll be many pleasing rewritten lines and many many new lines added out of nowhere, and at no expence of the original script. There's actually many new jokes added. Many surprises. ADV really thought about this all the way through. No opportunity to improve was passed! AMAZING!!! BRAVO!!! *CLAP CLAP CLAP*!!! I can't wait to see what's next!!
