How many episodes is it? If you liked it until the second to last episode, I wouldn't necessarily consider it a dissapointment. Then again, I haven't seen the series, so I am an uninformed observer.
I'm out...

The series is 13 episodes and I enjoyed the whole series quite a bit.

Well let's see don't read any further if you hate spoilers.

1.They never explain where the aliens come from

2.There is a climax building where NieA disapears and then she's back and the mothership just disapears for no explained reason

3.The class system is never explained such as how can an under 7 reregister as an under 5 and how come they don't have antenna?

4.Characters are introduced and just as quickly dissapear example NieAs rival. There is hints that she likes the boy Gendo.

Wonder if they were planning to make a second season?

The show isn't about where the aliens come from. The aliens are a metaphor for the foriegners who have come into Japan.

The importance of NieA's vanishing is how it effects the main character.

The class system is based on the class system of India... again, adding to the metaphor of the aliens being representative of the foriegners who have come into Japan. The Under 7s would be similar to the "Untouchables" in India's culture.

Karna may like Gendo, but we know that Gendo will never have anything to do with Karna. As much as I like Karna, her role in the show is not that important. She just helps paint the picture of alien culture.

While the story has important things to say about the characters, it is also a metaphor for Japan as a nation.

There's a lot going on in the show.

No... to my knowledge there is no plan for a second season.

What kind of "kick-ass" story are you looking for?

This wasn't an action title and never claimed to be.

Um up until the last dvd it had all the makings of a good story. I wanted to know if NeiA went to the mothership. I wanted Gendo and whats her face to get together. I wanted to see more Karna-NeiA cat fights. Too many opened plot holes not closed.
