Well, this is just a suggestion for ppl who dont have any stores close to them that sell non-bootleg anime and are in USA... www.cduniverse.com, their movies section has tons of legal anime DVDs or VHS for really good prices, they even won a "Most secure, safe site" award or something

Actually, I've heard of people managing to get good-quality raws of unlicensed shows, but I have no idea how to go about doing so. And even if I did, we're not allowed to discuss such practices here.

You don't pay for fansubs. Nobody makes a profit there.

Bootlegs are different. Someone is out to make money.

I’m more of a new age anime fan, I own a massive wall of DVDs (all legit, I miss my arm and leg terribly) but I remember a time when anime was traded around like baseball cards, copied over and over on VHS, and passed around like blood turned wine among fanatics. That started fansubs of today and to me the only reason anime is accepted in the states. Don’t buy bootleg, it promotes quantity over quality, and we would all be lacking it the greatness that anime has become today, morals, and other such idealistic things... I cant believe a read every last post, gona get back to my quest for the holy grail (a social life) now, take it easy.

Well, I suppose domestic bootlegin is possible, so it's not a guarantee, but it's less likely, I should think. As a rule of thumb, 'if it seems too good to be true, it probably is' applies. Just pay attention to price and episode per DVD counts, and you should be fine.
