Yes, but even if the quality is OK, you're still supporting Chinese mafia

This is a bootleg right. It's the whole series on three disks. I feel 100% sure it is but this guy I got it from on Amazon is trying to play dumb by saying he got it as a Tokyo Import. My plan is to either get him to get me the whole region 1 box set or something, or F him over. What do you think? Even on the back it says English & Japanese Subtitles.

English and Chinese subtitles definitely sounds very fishy. What region is it again? If it's R0, than there's pretty well no doubt.

Otherwise, I've never heard of a Bebop release with that cover art. Signs point to Bootleg...

0

Here's an image of the back. Overall I'd say it's most likely a bootleg, but I would like others opinion on this. Thanks Otohiko, and thanks to anyone else that could help me verify this.

Oh, now that I see the back... 100% bootleg, not even a doubt:

3 Disks? 650 minutes running time? Yep...

The description... WTF? It does not sound like Bebop, to me at least.

But the finishing stroke for me is the email... what official company in their right mind would use a Yahoo! mail address?

Oh boy

well i have already purchased a Box set of Studio Ghibli films (7 on 4 DVDs) on eBay, and it certainly seems to mach up with the signs you mention... :( now i am looking for more Miyazaki greatness, and stumbled across this box set which has 20 of his Films, which also seems too good to be true...
what do you think?

:? i must say, it amazes me that noone is actually releasing VALID versions of his work... real "Complete Miyazaki" Box Sets would be bought by anyone and everyone who knew what was good for 'em...

for that matter, why is it that only about half of his work has even been released in the US, box set or no box set... is this some sort of twisted plot by Disney??

Well, aside from the suspicious amount of movies, what gets me cautious is that the seller is from China. Non-bootleg Chinese releases of any sort are really a rarity...

Heh, and also, if you check the description, the #1 clue comes up near the bottom - "region-free". Taken with all the other nuances, that's a sure guarantee.

That said... man, those bootleggers do pretty professional design jobs sometimes. It's very convincing, with the box art, toy and all...

That you have to admit is true... sometimes a bootleggers artwork on some dvd covers are convincing. This was the case for me, I was at a con, then at the dealer's room, there was a guy selling evanglion platinum 6, which i wanted, so I was eager to buy. It looked like the general article, except one flaw... at the corner, the artwork started to peel off it's glue, then under was a cardboard box that said " Tomotoes" ... a real low

My fiance was excited when he got me the last sailor moon season in japanese only to find out that the subtitles sucked and the color of the characters started to get blurry and the last cd didn't work. I told him that if it's 60 bucks then it's not official. I mean I spent 150 for the uncut first season of Sailor Moon and I thought it was worth it.

If it is region 2, then it is region encoded for Japan. (And probably won't play in your DVD player anyways.) It should also probably cost at least twice as much as you would pay for a legitimate import DVD.
