My friend recently bought the entire RK series off of E-bay for $90 on 12 discs. It makes me sad to think that his money went to this guy instead of the companies like Media Blasters. I'll stick with buying the legit expensive stuff instead of the cheap illegal stuff.

There is a world of difference morally (let's not confuse legality with morality). The most obvious and least contriversial one I suspect is the order or two of manitude difference in value.

Copyright infrigement is not morally stealing. The criminal part of stealing your iBook is that you no longer have your iBook, not that Apple didn't get to sell me an iBook. If I copy your DVD, you still have it. If its theft, who did I steal from? That is, who no longer posesses something because I took it?

Assune it is true that if I obtain a illegal copy then the copyright holder has less chance of selling his wares to me in the future. This isn't stealing any more than when another company makes a better series. That, too, reduces the copyright holder (of the first series) chances of selling it to me.

Calling it piracy is even sillier than calling it stealing. Anyone who thinks otherwise should go read a history book (or, for some parts of the world, the paper) and find out what piracy was (is).

Another one copyright is not a moral right. See Section 8, Clause 8 of the Constitution: To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries If it were a moral right --- like the freedom of speech, owning property, etc. it wouldn't be something that Congress can do if it pleases; that's not the way the Constitution is written. Instead, it'd be something that is assumed to exist, and which Congress can not infringe.

Copyright is at best a bargain between authors and the public formed only to promote "the Progress of Science and useful Arts." In that sense, it can indeed be morally wrong to violate copyright in that it is violating that agreement.

Ummm, no. That isn't your country's doing (at least not if you're in the US, like I suspect you are) but rather the lincensor's doing. They do it because they feel there is a bigger market that way. Really, there is no law saying people must be sent to another dimension.

Hint: When parents see that their kids entertainment contains things like "f— you, you motherf— crackw— c—!" they are much less likely to by it. (OK, that's a big exaggeration, except for rap music, but you get the point).

I mean, really, child porn is legal in this country as long as it's not actually real children. (See Free Speech Coalition v. Ashcroft). And you thing the censor jobs anime companies do is legally required?

OK so after reading through the first five pages, and not seeing what i hoped for i have this question...

Does anyone know of any sites out there that sell LEGITIMATE imports?

I found a site that looked legit at first... anything that was licensed in america was legit... then I went looking to import something.... They had the first 50 or so episodes of Kodocha for like 60 bucks... Looked ok at first, but it had the chinese subs and its region free....

anyone got any reccomendations? Or do i have to wait another year for funimation to butcher it?? j/k...

Whats even worse is if you buy them at a local store, at full price (the price you;d pay for an American release) thinking they were legit imports from china. I bought Ceres, and Initial D like that a few years ago. (It was when they first apeared on the scene) THere was no NA release at the time, and I actually thought it was a legit import from china. They are horrible quality btw, and the subs are broken english and sometimes go off the screen. and to make it worse, payed premium price for it. Initial D is actually descent, Translation wise, but the visual quality still suffers. Boy did I get screwed back then. I now know better ofcourse, But its a good thing to put this thread here for those that havn't realized it yet.

I was also surprised to see a very large stand at a con (with a TV, large posters and all) selling Naruto and Inuyasha movie boots like it was just normal, completely fine practice. Aren't con officials supposed to stop stuff like that?
