Anyway, I'm curious as to whether the theoligical basis for Instrumentality has any foundations in reality. Do the dead sea scroll really dictate the sort of things like the coming of the angels and the return of all humanity to their source? If so, where did this information come from, A website? a Text book? Surely the creators of the series didn't get all of their information from the dead sea scrolls, Most of which are locked up in the vatican, along with countless other relics. Just like they did not fabricate all of the information they draw on.

Also, when is the directors cut going to be available in the US?

Most of the religious material in Evangelion comes from the Biblical Apocrypha and the Kaballa.

The main story of Evangelion is a story of self-evaluation and a tale of the common search for identity, which links all of us as human beings. In short, it tells this universal tale in the form of one young boy. His self discovery and his ability to find his own value leaves us with an empowering message.

The surface story is more or less a battle between mankind and beings called angels. SEELE formed the agency NERV to deal with the threat, but were unaware that Gendo had plans on his own. However, this surface story is merely a dressing for the more important tale of Shinji.

The topics presented int he show offer up some thoughts, but are certainly meant for discussion... as the concepts of existence have been up for discussion for the ages.

That's a thumbnail for you.

The thing that has never made a lick of sense to me....

How was Rei created? What components went into her creation, when was she created, in what way was she produced, and what is she physically? (And anything else you can give me on the subject that I may have neglected to ask for) Thanks :D

I always thought Rei was a composite of Yui and Lilith or something like that.

In the show, it is established that Rei is a clone made up from Yui and Lilith. We don't know how this was done, but we know that it was not consistant. We know Rei II loved Gendo while Rei III did not.

This might represent that Rei II was more "in tune" with Yui
while Rei III was more "in tune" with Lilith.

Moving on... we know that all the Rei clones were started at the same time. All the clones in the tank were the same age. No new clones were prepared. They all had some sort of shared conciousness, though, because it would have taken too long to train each one with knowledge of the world as well as how to pilot the EVA unit.

It is also my thought that Rei is representative of the 6th sephira, where the height of man touches the realm of the divine, but I'm not sure of that.

What you suggest definetly makes sense.

Though, it doesn't say much for Ayanami as a human. Surely, her "love" for Gendou goes beyond reminisence of Yui, afterall he raised her and was one of the only 2 true human contacts she ever had. The notion that she is a made of both Yui and Lilith (physically) doesn't make much sense to me, but I didn't expect it to make complete sense anyway.

By the way, speculation is welcome (Eva Moneky) ;)

Well...

They made it clear that Rei and Yui look very much alike.

Ritsuko's mother comments on how Rei looks like Yui.
Shinji is reminded of his mother when he is around Rei.

I think the use of the same voice actress for Yui and Rei further demonstrates a connection.
