OK...
Lillith is the 2nd Angel.
Again... in the Khaballa, of which Evangelion the TV series takes its religious references from, Adam and Lillith are not Angels.
However, in the case of the TV show, Adam is the First Angel.
Rei is a clone from Yui and Rei... so Rei is nothing more than an extension of Lillith. (While I hate to bring up the movie, they make that fact plain in the movie)
Rei I is more Yui than Lillith
Rei II is sort of a balance
Rei III is more Lillith than Yui.
Lillith is also the Angel they used to copy from when they made the EVAs...
Technically, Lillith was the first Angel that was found...
They discovered Adam's location because of what they had learned from Lillith.
Now... to further point this out... In the Khaballa, Lillith is the mother of all demons... and the descriptions of her children are the basis behind the design of why the EVA units look the way they do.
See?
The Evas were made from copying Lillith.
The Evas were designed from the descriptions of Lillith's children
Lillith is the mother of all demons
The EVAs are demons
The EVAs fight Angels...
Anyway...
According to the EVA storyline, the human race are children of Lillith as well.
You have to know where to break from the old stories from the Khaballa to where Gainax manipulated these stories for their own story purposes.
Just because Adam wasn't an angel in the Khaballa... Adam IS an Angel in the series.
Lillith was NOT the mother of the human race in the Khaballa... but she IS (apparently) the mother of the human race in EVA
One almost thinks that EVE doesn't exist in Evangelion's telling of the story.
You see... in the Khablla, Adam had three wives made for him and he rejected two before God made Eve.
The 2nd bride he rejected was Lillith...
In the movie (again, I hate to bring up the movie) Gendo hopes to assume the power of "instrumentality" by taking Adam (which is fused into his palm in the movie) and coupling with Lillith... in this case by coupling with Rei who is a clone of Lillith.
Could it be that the world of Evangelion is a world where Adam accepted Lillith and thus there was no Eve?
Anyway... these are just some thoughts I wanted to voice
