It's both.

The official title in Japan was Aa! Megamisama which translates to "Ah! My Goddess".

When it was brought to America, the title was changed to [/i]Oh! My Goddess[/i]. Perhaps there's a part of fandom (which included me, when I first heard the release announcement) that thinks the tweak to the name was stupid, and was determined to keep the original rendition of the title no matter what.[/i]

Its actually really suppose to be AH! Megumisama, thats the japanese title, the english/japanese title is AH! My Goddess. The americans thought it would be a catchy title if they changed it to Oh! My Goddess. They changed it because of the commonly used "Oh My god" phrase...

Megumisama?

I know Ms. Hayashibara is well-known and appears to have a hand in several long-lasting and popular shows, but I had no idea she had her own series, strictly about her!

Why not? She has her own comic [ http://www.nnanime.com/megumi-toon/ ].

(j/k, obviously)

Ok one last time for this one. Oh my goddess is the official english title so says the arthur of the manga. When it was explained to him what Ah my Goddess sounded like he said he preffered Oh my goddess.

This is all explained in the liner notes that come with the AnimEigo DVD release of Oh! My Goddess!...

And yes, it's Oh! My Goddess!

THe original creator, who was originally unaware that it would translate to a joke in English, said that would be a great name for it when translated to English.

well i personaly think its Ah! My Goddess since it on the title of the anime itself IN ENGLISH and i personaly dont see how anyone came up with "Oh! My Goddess" when its clearly on the title on the anime when u watch it.

Aaaaaaaaagh! <goes mad> It depends on the release!

OAVs -- Animeigo -- Oh My Goddess!

Movie -- Pioneer -- Ah! My Goddess

Whichever you prefer... is up to you!

Oh, wait... If you mean it came up on screen in the OAVs in English, then sorry, it's been a while since I've seen them, and haven't gotten around to seeing the movie. I was getting tired of this argument and now I'm not sure which version you were basing your comments on.

Mind you... note the following quote:
"Oh, come on. Being printed "in English" is no reason to choose a particular spelling. If it were, we'd all be saying "Captain Herlock."" - Trish Ledoux on the Ah!/Oh My Goddess controversy, 14/09/93
