ok, my friends and i were talking favorite horror movies a little while ago and i thought of bio hunter just because there are some creepy as hell moments in it. but i got to thinking, what would a horror movie be like, ANIME STYLE? can you just imagine how many american movie fans would jump out of their skin watching it  but i figure as i know relativly little because anime is such a broad topic as anime that i'd put it up for discusion, do you know any anime that is intented as a horror not just a scary ass movie but a horror movie.

Actually, Perfect Blue was pretty violent in my opinion. It was also relatively well received by american critics. (they keep describing it disney meets hitchcock though :? )

If you are talking 'Fist of the north star' exploding bodies type stuff, well I don't think it has as much impact.

Watching people explode who are not very well animated sounds bad but I don't think it compares to more realistic violence. Perfect Blue had a couple drawn out murders and the people looked like people, the bodies had more realistic reactions to pain and that made it more horrific to me.

Some how it makes me cringe because I could almost imagine pain like that..but seeing bodies just twist and explode....I dunno, maybe that's just being desensitized by falling anvils and T.N.T. at work.

....my point being, I don't think too many americans would be upset. Our primary religion uses a device of excecution as it's symbol after all. Now put some gratuitous sex and there and you'll have a picket line in no time

I haven't really seen a good horror anime. But Perfect Blue is as close as it gets. I don't think I really consider Vampire Princess Miyu a horror either.

I remember I turned on Sci-Fi once and saw this really weird non-animated fantasy movie on. I was watching it for a while and they didn't give the title, but I was like, "This movie sucks, but it could make a really good anime." Well it was Fist of the North Star... so I was wrong, it didn't make a good anime.

I think anime has the potential to make a really good horror movie. They should make more in my opinion.

Miyu is definately dark, definately goth, but only mild horror. It is technically horror though (or at least that's how the graphic novels are classified).

You really can't classifie any anime as a horror. example: If you walk into FYE and look at the horror section you wont see any Anime, now you walk to the Anime section and see something that can be clasified as a horror movie, BUT it can't because it is already classified as Anime. However, Anime is too broad a genra for us fans so the sub-genra is created, meaning that Anime can be classifed as horror, action, comedy ect...., but only through the eyes of an Anime fan.

Do you understand???

i know this strays from the original question but, the best horror movie ever was the cube. jesus that was FUCKED up. not only did it have non stop blood flow and gore, it actually had an intriguing plot. granted it made absolutely no sense, still makes you wonder. it basically was one giant metaphor that has a meaning for each person. i love those movies. i loved cube. although i doubt ill ever watch it again. beleive me, twice is enough

Yeahhhh... I was wondering what the point of it was... Could've been some rich Masochist with ALOT of time on his hands taking people from all walks of life to test their sanity and puzzle-skills (I liked the chick with the glasses, too bad she died)
