Who Likes Anime More?

Postby -M_X_R- » Sun Aug 11, 2002 4:34 pm

I was just wondering who likes anime more as in Asian people or people in Canada, USA sorta like that if you get what I'm talking about, just for anyone information I'm Mexican yet I wouldn't say Mexican's like anime more even though they show it on there regular TV channels in Mexico, but they do that also in a lot of other country's, personally I would think that either asian people would like it more since that's where it would be most popular, Japan being the creators and all, or Anglo(Sorry if I spelled that wrong but for some people that don't know what that means, in sort white people) but who knows.. I sure don't.. :)

Well one thing's for sure. Swede's are too schtoopidt to tell the difference between anime's and cartoons. A lot of people just think it's a synonym for pr0n, other's don't know much more then that it's drawn in a 'cartoony' way. Some of us are gifted though..!

Otherwise I'd say it's really big in Asia esp. Japan. I don't know if there's just so many asian people there that make it a big industry..

Aah I have a hard time explaining myself, hopefully someone understands.

Hey, thanx, I'm 50% Swede BTW.

Usually the source is where the most success something will have, though several exceptions do exist. One can think though that something is more special because it is different when coming from another country. The cult following may be stronger here... actually wait, on second thought, scratch that. Japan is where it is most popular, period.

Obviously anime is a big thing in Asia, even outside Japan - Hong Kong, the Philippines, Taiwan (those lucky bastards, especially in the northern part, are probably so close to Japan that they receive Japanese TV broadcasts... probably explains how they throw out the bootleg DVDs so fast).

Anime even has a big following down here in the southern part of East Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, etc) - let's say I'm rarely in short supply - they show the stuff on free-to-air and cable, and it's all over the place on DVD and VCD. :)

Having said that, I must now channel some of the more anal members of this forum (and I mean that in the best possible way  ) by noting that this thread really belongs in the General Anime forum, and not here in General AMV.

Yeah, we Taiwanese are pirates extraordinaire. :D *dons eyepatch*

But I've noticed that Japanese people themselves do not really care for anime. Whenever I go to the local import store (which is run by Japanese people) It's always Americans and/or Chinese people who are buying manga, CDs, video games, etc. The store clerks know me pretty well and they always comment about how knowledgeable I am about their wares even though they themselves know nothing about it. :D (By the way if you ever go to an import store run by Japanese people, be sure to accept change and your receipt with both hands. It's much more polite and they'll be nicer to you. :) )

Of course you won't see many japanese people at an import store. The Japanese don't emmigrate much, a huge juxtaposition with China, whose people often want out.

Well dammit whoever likes anime likes anime. I understand that it's hitting russia bigtime too. In the U.s it's only truly started gaining popularity in the last 6 years. America is probably the only country that has an animation industry anywhere near the size of Japans.

i don't know for sure but from my experience it seems like american are more crazy about anime and japan is probably father down. but japan has as much anime as they could ever need we wait and bootleg and download but it's like mice who live in cheese factory probably don't like cheese as much as the mice who only get crumbs that fall off the delivery truck. i don't know that just makes sense to me but i'm probably way off and i'm sure non of you understand what i mean. oh well thats my take on it

I just have to say that Asians (lack of a better word) like anime more, just because they`re more knowledgeable of it. A lot of people I know don`t even know what anime is. If I give them an example, they say -oh, you mean cartoons.-. My dad even thought that ANIME was just a word I made up, because it would sound better than CARTOONS, until he went to an electronics store and saw an Anime section.

But I think those who live further away from communities that have anime, like Japan, China, become more involved with the whole concept. Because it`s not avalable at their disposal, like me.

So, I think we`re more interested in it, because it`s not necessarily something of the everyday in our communities. It`s just something different and more interesting.
