can someone explain what was so great about Eva's ending? The series bugged me from the beggining. Shinji being the innocent child with the fate of the world thrust on him by his father who abandoned him at childhood (And might I add, would have jsut as soon never seen shinji again if someone else would have been able to do the job.) And then I get to watch the Royal Bitch godess and friends kick him around for 30 or so episodes while we discove a thing or to about their disturbing pasts and then the last angel dies, and the bad guys win. I would have droped the sereis after the first half of the episodes, but the vain hope of character development and a happy ending kept me going. but nothing, Asuka stayed a bitch, rie stayed a zombie, shinji never grew a spine, and his dad remaned an asshole to his very core. I thought that the movie ending was better than the series because they didnt get sucked into that alternate reality, and Asuka was strangled.

So again I ask, what was so good about the ending, or the series for that matter?

Lack of Endings:

Legend of Basara and Angel Sanctuary. I LOVE these series a lot. So why do I say their endings suck? Simple. THEY DO NOT HAVE ONE!!!. Angel Sanctuary was cut off at the end of a chapter at least, which is far more than I can say for Legend of Basara, where the last episode was the start of the next chapter!!! and then just cut it off. WTFing Hell!?!? If you're gonna abandon a series, at least make some effort into a short-cut ending
Crap Endings:

Rayearth 2: They broke a key rule, directly against what happened in season 1. CLAMP, you need to know when to end something, Rayearth should've been left as over at ep.20.

X/1999 Movie: Another red light for CLAMP. What they were trying to do wasn't bad, it could've been a great tragedy. The execution absolutely sucked though, and tends to leave you laughing at the blatant over-dramatics.

Evangelion TV series ending 1: When you try to pass everything off as a bad dream, and also do some of the last scenes in crayon, it is official, you suck. All these juicy and epic plot items they have just itching to be abused... are just ignored, dropped, told to go home, and not used. Now, at least this wasn't by their choice, they lost funds and went through a fire that resulted in a desperate contingency plan.

Vampire Miyu TV: OK, clan of bird was just plain dumb, and caused key inconsitencies with the OVA, whose story was better and darker, though arguable less fucked up. Reiha SO saved this series, if she wasn't there, it would've really sucked. The majority of episodes, being self contained stories most of the time, have much better endings than the series itself. That's sad. I'd strongly recommend the series for the individual episodes, but definately not for the series' main plot.

Weiss Kreuz TV: I second Hakura's opinion of this series a lot. Yeah, the 4 main C designs are cool, the premise is kinda cool... but once you are past like ep 8 or so, good grief does this series turn to crap, and fast.

Ho-hum Endings;

Record of Lodoss War OVA: It's a really nice ending, and an absolutely gorgeous series... but it is a typical ending, hero saves and gets girl. Let's face it guys, the problem with this ending is that Parn is a weenie and would never have one in the battles he faced if he didn't have the nametag of "hero" in the script. I could drop a spoiler to further back this up, but won't out of courtesy ^_^.

The endings that leave little impact on you are hard to remember, thus I can't think of many examples off the top of my head.

Awesome Endings:

Evangelion TV series ending 2: Epic, awesome, rectified. I don't think I need to say more, and if I were to, I'd be dropping several spoilers.

Rayearth 1: It's a funny juxtaposition with Eva and Rayearth here, but anyway, very tragic, excellent plot twist, and moving. All the elements that make an ending great. As mentioned, CLAMP's only problem is not knowing when to quit, Rayearth 2 sucked.

Vampire Princess Miyu OVA: Ah, dark and twisted, the ending here sent shivers down my spine the first time I saw it.

Boys Be... : Absolutely gorgeous, touching, and something that I could relate to more than any other series I've ever seen!!! Definately struck a major chord with me in the last ep.. Stunning.

Shoujo Kakumei Utena TV and Movie: I like the ending to the TV series better than the movie, but the movie ending was a lot of fun despite the messed-up-ness of the last 15 minutes, so I have a high opinion of both of them, plus the movie is the most gorgeous animation I've ever seen to date. The TV series was really dark, with love and betrayal and friendship and manipulation and courage and hanging on to that last bit of hope.

Hehe, you didn't see the 2nd, real ending. Rei didn't stay a zombie, oooooh nononononno. As for Shinji's spine, well, it grows, but also snaps ^^.

Hmmm...great endings...

Lain - I was so annoyed by the ending of this anime, it left me depressed. But I couldn't stop thinking about it, it just got stuck in my head. After spending a week or so with Lain on the brain I realized the series had a great ending and the fact that it left me with such a strong impression that really made me think, meant that the series had definetely made the right move.

End of Evangelion - I liked the ending of the series and would've been okay with it being the only ending but EoE really blew me away. Though it left me still trying to put the pieces together I felt strangely satisfied with it and I finally felt like I finally knew what Eva was really coming down to.

Cowboy Bebop - the series is fun and all but it was the ending that really made it for me. Faye's wrap up was especially touching.

Noir - I just felt like the series had been pulled together appropriately, it didn't blow me away but it did leave me saying "that was an excellent series."

Trigun - Same thing as with Noir only the ending blew me away a little more ^_^

Truth be told, I have yet to see an anime with a totally sucky ending, which probably means I'm not watching enough series in their entirety so far. sigh so much to watch, so little time...

This is the type of ending I always look for. The Sixth Sense is a good live-action example. By the time you reach the conclusion, you discover that everything you thought was true...isn't. And what's more, the difference is right since the clues were always there.

Another good example is Giant Robo, followed by the first Saber Marionette J series.

I don't want to get into a massive discussion about Evangelion here on this thread.

However, I would be happy to talk about the TV show ending and if I'm forced to, I'll talk about that horrible movie as well...)

you can e-mail me at UncleMilo@yahoo.com and I will be happy to talk about the show.

And that goes for anyone who wants to talk about Evangelion.

I am well versed, but not an expert of the show. I will never claim to have full knowledge, because I couldn't begin to talk about the hundreds of references to the Khaballa, like my friend could... but I still have enough of my own thoughts to go by.

SPOILER ALERT (Noir)

I forgot about Noir, because I file that one under crap. It was going good until ep 24, but they shot the series when Chloe died, and went cliche from there. That series' saving grace is the soundtrack, kinda like Initial D that way.

I love those endings. It makes you watch the whole thing over and over. And everytime you watch it again, you discover something new. I find that a lot of music videos are like that too. It`s just too much information trying to be crammed into your brain at once. It`s sort of a rush.

Since I also think Kite is one of the crappiest Anime I've seen, I'll agree with you there.

I've only watched one Anime series to the end: Neon Genesis Evangelion. The TV ending AND the Movie ending both sucked ass, but in different ways. The TV ending didn't answer jack shit, it just had the characters sitting in chairs and saying "Oh, woe is me, I have so many issues, I'm so f*cked up" followed by a whole load of shit about reality and perception. The movie ending answered a few questions, but it opened up a whole assload of other questions that didn't get answered, it had the same load of shit about dreams and reality, and the very very end is extremely depressing. I think the movie was badly needed, but done in the shittiest possible way.

I think Episode 24 would have been the best ending, as it made sense and ended on a happy note.

bla bla bla COMPLAINT
everyone has the right to his or hers own opinion but to rack down on anything like that blows. I understand that different people enterpret different movies in different ways. I just think that it sucks to throw something away just because one doesn't understand at first. I didn't understand it fully either, I still don't. But I researched about it and found out that it was a pretty good 'statement' and to some part, what it wanted to say.
