Favourite Studio Ghilbi Creation?

Postby DiemondDagger » Sat Jun 29, 2002 2:51 pm

What is it?

I love them all, but I think Mononoke and Kiki's Delivery Service are mine.
On your Mark was great too though. Castle in the Sky actually should be tied with Kiki's since whennever I think of Kiki's Deliver Service I think of that Castle in the Sky.

I love Studio Ghilbi >_<

Perhaps that's why I like Vlad's Memory Dance so much...

I've only seen Mononoke Hime, so I guess that's it. ^_^

Man... that's a tricky question.

I guess I'd have to say Totoro because it's the most magic thing ever.

However, I find Nausicaa incredible and mesmerising. I was in tears when that movie was over - I love it.

So yeah, I think it's between Totoro and Nausicaa. However, having just got the dvd of Whisper of the Heart that's a damn fine movie too.

meh - they're all so good!

I've seen are Princess Mononoke, and I saw My Neighbor Totoro when I was a kid.

I don't really have the money or language capacity to order R2 DVDs, so I haven't seen any besides those.

Pity the Angel of Chaos, for he is deprived.

Definately Spirited Away

Postby Fungie½ » Sat Jun 29, 2002 6:45 pm

Studio Ghibli's new film "Spirited Away" was REALLY good. I also like "Nausicaa", "Pom Poko", "Totoro", "Kiki's Delivery Service", and "Laputa: Castle in the Sky".

Hmm....I really liked Only Yesterday. My favorite, however, would have to be Grave of the Fireflies.

The first one I saw from Studio Ghibli was Nausicaa and stuck on me. Great storyline and characters!
Then I saw Totoro which was kiddish but I still enjoyed it. And then the latest one I saw was Princess Mononoke
on DVD before I saw any of the reviews and loved it. It ranked up there with Nausicaa in my mind.
When Nausicaa and the others come out on DVD, I'll be there to snatch them up. ^_^

To my understanding "Grave of the Fireflies" is not technically a Ghibli title.

However, Laputa is still one of my all time favorites...
but Kiki's Delivery Service, Pompoko and Whispers of the Heart are all up thre as well...

I'd never know how to pick a favorite, though.

I honestly feel that Ghibli is the finest animation studio that currently exists.

Yes it is.

It was directed by Isao Takahata and released as part of a double bill with My Neighbout Totoro.

The only film mentioned here that isn't technically a ghibli movie is Nausicaa as it was made before "Ghibli" was formed but the crew who made Nausicaa did move on to Studio Ghibli, obviously

You might be thinking GoF isn't ghibli because it's not part of Disney's licensing deal which focused primarily on the Miyazaki directed movies.

Actually... I went to Nausicaa net and I see I was mistaken.

I thought Grave was not part of the Disney Deal because the film was not officially a Ghibli title... but it turns out that it was distributed through a different company... and THAT is why it isn't in the Disney Deal.

Speaking of which, I wish Disney would release a Kiki DVD... hell... they released the Subtitled VHS a dubbed VHS... so all the stuff is there!
