DVDs are pretty much always 720x480. The spec allows a couple of smaller resolutions, but you almost never seen them on commercial DVDs. Blu-Rays might vary a bit more, but most of the time they're 1920x1080.

For your list, check a site like rightstuf.com for availability, and/or some site like ANN's encyclopedia for episode counts.

If you're looking for AR information (16:9 or 4:3) , that's present on the DVD itself. I've found looking up the DVD at amazon.com to be the quickest way to figure that out if you need to know before hand though. (It also helps when you're trying to give someone scripting advice remotely without images to help you)

I'd recommend http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=main - it shows numbers of episodes and aspect ratios as well and it isn't as cluttered as ANN (never liked their layout).

I'm just kidding... I'm not THAT angsty about it. But that just happens to be my favorite anime so I'm a little protective...

But unless you PRONOUNCE it wrong, thats where a facepalm comes in (or a slap)
