Otaku: The Series!

Hi folks!

The first episode of the web series I co-star in has finally released! It’s called Otaku: the Series; it follows Coco, new anime club president, and the members of a dysfunctional anime club. Even if you aren't into web series', it’s only six minutes of your time and I think we can all relate in some cringe-worthy way. So far there aren't any anime music videos featured or referenced, but it will most likely be a topic of discussion later :D

I’m playing Chike, obviously, the token black guy! Coco, the anime club president, is played by Goldie Chan, a jack of all trades and creator of the show. She’s very open to new ideas, suggestions, and where we should go from here! So do me a favor and give me some honest feedback! That's the reason I'm posting this, I want to hear all of your reactions. For better or worse!

Let me know what you loved/hated/too long/too short/stupid/funny, etc!

Episode 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INSZq9pOvD0

You can stay updated on http://www.otakutheseries.com

Thanks, ya'll ;D

[Mod #4423: As was stated, this has no connection whatsoever with AMV scene and as such can't be discussed here. If you wish to talk about it, you can announce it along with AMV in AMV Announcement forums or donate and talk about it in Donator forums, but otherwise this has no place here.]

[Phade: They asked nicely first before posting and I said it was ok (mainly because they asked nicely first). Sorry for the confusion...

New user.

First post.

No direct relevance to AMVs.

I would urge you to give a good reason why, though this may interest anime fans in general, why it wouldn't be considered spam or advertising.

BT

This has already been done. It's called Sempai.

Eheh... people can be a little harsh here. ^^;; Ok, well I did give it a watch and I thought it was alright. It seems like it'll be an amusing series and you guys put quite the amount of work into it I'm sure. =) I will be sticking around for episode 2, and will decide then it if catches my fancy.

However, you're going to have to listen to Kionon on the fact that this website it for AMVs only. We appreciate that you want to spread the word of this new web series of yours, but this website isn't for anything and everything about anime: sure we talk about series and music as well, but fanmade works are normally simply AMVs here.
If you are, however, interested in making AMVs or simply want to talk about anime series in our Series Discussion forum, please feel free!

Thanks for backseat modding :) I emailed the owner of the forum before I posted this with him knowing full well that I hadn't posted on this thread. So I believe that answers all your questions. As for Sempai, can you elaborate? I searched for it but found a few different results. What's the full title?

Thank you! Anything in particular you would like to see in future episodes? We're still working on new content so we're open to ideas, the idea is to please our audience. And although this is an AMV website, AMVs are steeped in anime culture.

Our mods are overworked as it is. It is very common here for the first post or three to be from well established users. Do not mistake my brevity for rudeness. We deal with a great many of inappropriately placed threads. Brevity is clarity. I stand by exactly what I said, "I would urge you to give a reason why this isn't spam." Having Phade's permission? Good reason.

I emailed the owner of the forum before I posted this with him knowing full well that I hadn't posted on this thread. So I believe that answers all your questions.

It doesn't, but you're not obligated to give me answers.

Phade is to most Org users what George Washington is to Americans: considered a great leader, a founder, and one who retired and died long before they appeared on the scene. Phade doesn't make it a habit of appearing, and so we wouldn't expect him to pop up and inform us that something that looks like spam isn't actually spam. Believe me, I wish he'd appear more. So there is no reason to expect that any of us would reasonably assume you had spoken to Phade. He doesn't even hardly ever speak to us.

As for Sempai, can you elaborate? I searched for it but found a few different results. What's the full title?

I totally understand that the first few posts will be from established users. I have no problem with brevity, but I believe you can see where your brevity could be mistaken for rudeness.

Oh, what did I miss? I'm happy to give you answers if I didn't answer anything fully.

Ah, yup. That's what I found and thought you were referring to. Thanks for showing it to me, but really the idea has been done more than just that comic. If anything, Genshiken (as pointed out to me by someone else) is a closer reference. It was your comment of "it's been done before," even though many things have been done before, that made me feel like the tone of your post was demeaning.

Genshiken: http://www.genshiken.info/

Thank you for trying to watch out for the forums and actually responding to me. I really do appreciate it. As someone who doesn't feel like the target audience, what do you think of the show? Irrelevant to you? Crappy? Overdone? Intelligent? Funny? Silly? I'm curious to know.

I wrote a big long response, and then it got eaten.

Maybe I will write it again later.

Brevity codes are simply code words used in the military when communicating over unsecured or possibly compromised radio frequencies. I was just razzing Kio though

Otakuchike,

Brevity is itself a Brevity Code meaning "transmissions limited by time, terrain, weather conditions, or enemies listening in, please use fewer code words to communicate messages."

Kenisama is an enlisted Army grunt, I'm waiting to hear back on whether or not I get to go to Officer Candidate School for the US Navy.

BTW, package got seen last week, results should be coming in this next week, leaving for Guam tomorrow to await the news, hit the beaches, and possibly get some on a stern 50 Cal...

Guys, I can see where you come from with all this, but please quit the OT and the "drama" (if there's any of it left, anyway). We clarified that this thread is legit. Now, if you wanna reply, make it relevant to the web series at hand here.

I watched the first ep, and it was more.....awkward than amusing. Sometimes awkwardness can be amusing, so I'm not sure if it's just too much or not quite enough. It'd also be nice if there was a bit more introduction of all the characters, the way the first ep panned out made it almost seem like it was a later episode and the viewer should already know who is who. Still, it's only one ep so far, kind of like a pilot, right? Plenty of series have a rough start and begin to level out as everything falls into place. I'll be sure to check out the next episode.

Mmm, I should have asked my brother; he's in the Army.

'Preciate that. Thanks! Since you didn't comment, I assume you didn't watch it/it wasn't to your liking?

Yup, definitely the pilot. It plays as both our first episode and the pilot. That's why we're asking for so much feedback, to see what we need to tweak. We will work on the awkwardness levels, for sure. And we're releasing some new content soon to properly introduce the characters, as we've heard a lot about character development. Thanks!
