I agree with Nick. The de facto thought that pops up in most Western peoples' heads when they hear "anime" is "Japanese Animation", as well as an image of Speed Racer, a mecha, or La Blue Girl
.
It's kind of a moot argument though, since many East and West animation companies will off load some of the drawing work to Korean studios. I know "The Simpsons" does this, and they even mentioned Asian outsourcing in the episode about the "Itchy And Scratchy" movie. Japan, being even closer to Korea, probably does this also.

you know it is possible for a word to have 2 meanings or defenitions.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

bah, anime is japenes animation in my opinion it doesn't make something good or bad, while i would never glorify any american animation by calling it anime when to me it's not. i get anoyed at people who just call anything anime i believe they need to know a little about it to call it their favorite show. spongebob sgaurepants is a hilaroius show but it's not an anime. this question is mostly personal preferance but i'm sure any die hard fans of anime would never whant the jetsons or some other american toon called an anime. wait thats it it's so simple
Toon= american
anime= japanese
there problem solved
