Great, another person who blames their problems on Vista. (If I had a dime for everytime I heard that...) I was using Vista x64 for the last 6 months and just went back to XP a few weeks ago to determine what I like better. And Vista is hands down faster and just more pleasant to use. If you do have problems with programs in Vista, it is more the third party's fault for not working with Vista or 64-bit properly. Hell, standard systems you buy at stores come with 64-bit frequently now. Vista is more than 2 years old now, so blaming Vista is just stupid. Yeah, Vista does have issues, but so does XP and every other operating system.
Ok, on to your problem. Being that Vegas requires .NET, make sure you're updated with that (there was just a big .NET update this week I believe). And of course, make sure you have all Windows updates. And being that Lagarith is being odd, uninstall and reinstall it using the installer version. If still having problems, reinstall Vegas and try these steps if still having issues.
1. Turn UAC off. (Turn back on if it doesn't help after all the steps, UAC is important! You can have it on, but silent using
TweakUAC)
2. Run always as administrator (right click on icon on desktop>properties>compatibility>check the run as administrator box)
3. If you get a "Rundll32" error that closes the program: Run program in "Compatibility Mode XP SP2" if you still encounter issues.
My question is did it work just fine before? Also, can you render out to different formats?
If it's still being stupid, try a trial version of Vegas 8.0c or Vegas 8.1 (64-bit). However, the 64-bit version is really only useful for DV, HDV, and AVCHD workflows, it does not non-standard codecs in my experience. Just don't save the project file in the new version (make a copy) because it might make it invalid with 7.0.
