Vegas rendering problem

Postby yunaheartilly » Mon Sep 08, 2008 2:28 pm

Hello,
I was wondering if someone could help me on this issue:

program: Sony vegas 8.0 pro
Footage: Game footage (Final fantasy XI cutscenes) taken with fraps : (http://www.fraps.com/)
Problem: I import files which are relatively big into vegas then as a test i render and play the file. suddenly the contrast is a lot higher, out of nowhere, it just renderes it as if i added an effect (which i didn't)

fraps-video info:

Vegas-properties:

So I took frames 29 which resulted to ntsc video.(closest to 29 frames)
gamma i tried both 2222 video and 1000 linear. no idea what would make better results. and took the same resolution.

Without any effects on the video i get this problem. If you need photos of output video, ill post them but im sure you can imagine a video with a contrast so high your movie ends up almost black.

(-Premiere does not mess up my video at the end- )
Thanks^^

perhaps converting it from "Fraps" codec to a lossless codec before putting it in sony vegas might help? if you want to test that just convert a short clip at first..

It's really weird...
tried screenshotting for you how the video has bad quality and is too dark, but then suddenly it fixed itself... i don't know what's going on.
i tried serveral players.
But thanks again, ill just try and make the video and mess a bit with the settings.
converting it to a lossless codec has the same properties and results,
I take it that fraps is being considdered lossless too.
thanks a lot though ^^; its my fault for messing with "inappropriate" video matterial.
I ask for problems :?

But do the settings from vegas sound ok to you?
Im not sure if i should take gamma linear or video.

Whatever the default on the gamma setting is should be fine. I've never touched it.

It probably won't change the quality or anything, but your Pixel Aspect Ratio should be 1.0, since this is obviously a recording of your computer screen (which has a square PAR).
... yea ...
