Vegas 7 - re-organizing clips (insert)

Postby Posteman » Thu Nov 22, 2007 10:44 am

Alright this is an easy one and I feel stupid not being able to figure it out. How do you move clips in the timeline and insert them in the new location without having them overlap with the clip in that location? I want all the remaining clips to move over when I do this without manually moving them over to create space first. I've done this in premiere but can't figure it out in Vegas.

Thanks!

you are wanting to move a bunch of clips at the same time right?

well you can select all by going to "edit" ->"select"->"select all" and then everything will be highlighted and you can move everything

if you are wanting to move a specific group, click the first one on the timeline hold down shift and click the last one that you want to move and all the ones in between will be selected and you should be able to move the whole group while it's still highlighted..

if you want to "perminantly" keep the sequence you select your group, right click on them and choose "group"->"create new" and that will keep those grouped in the timing you have them in...

if you ever want to remove them from the group click the clip you want to remove and choose "group"->"remove from"

once you have them "grouped" you can move the whole group to anywhere on the timeline...

moving clips

Postby Posteman » Thu Nov 22, 2007 12:58 pm

Thanks for the reply JaddziaDax. What I was trying to get at is just moving one clip or multiple ones to a different location in the timeline and at the new insersion point have all the remaining clips move over to make room. I haven't used Premiere for a while but I remember holding ctrl or shift and a letter key to accomplish this. I'm assuming Vegas has a similar function. I find "selecting all" then moving them to make space and then moving a clip into that space annoying. There has to be an easier way to re-arrange clips and have vegas adjust all the other clips so they don't overlap.

move the clips out of the way before you move the ones you want there :3
or move the clips onto another video line?

to get a second video line right click on the video line and choose "add video line"

You probably want to "ripple edit" - or "shuffle" clips. Control-L will get you started with ripple edits. Right-click and dragging a clip brings up the shuffle option. The Help menu has more info.
