Vegas 7 makes stupid things with clips

Postby BauziOLD » Thu Feb 08, 2007 3:53 pm

Hi!

My best friend Mac has a problem and he asked me if I could ask here. So I do!
He is a really strange problem in Vegas 7 and we tried a lot of things. Different codecs and so on.

The programm lays over every clip a "brown" filter like a colour correction or whatever and puts at a scence of a clip really heavy grain (like you have at YouTube amvs for example); it´s also darker. Vegas renders this way also in the outro image. So it´s not only at the preview.

Things we tried:
-Different codecs (Lagarith, Huffy...)
-We looked at every layer. There were no filters added
-We checked the layer properities (everything stand at "source alpha" as it should).
-There shouldn´t be a effect over the whole project. Other question: We didn´t checked it out, because we are not sure how and if it also works. We know that you can add filters to the whole layer, but can I also put filters over a whole project?
And how we do that?

I hope that you can help us or Mac out. =/

*cough*
Kill him, but the source footage was...; just say no dvd;... x264 (when I´m not wrong; I can´t say it for sure now)

I´m interrested:
Ok first he used avs scripts but than also tried with Lagarith clips made out of the clips.
Could there be problems when I render out of the files Lagarith clips?

hmmmn i use lagarith encoded avis and it seems to work fine O.o

O.o it could be his source footage... he tried converting the original files to lagarith?

and how does it look in the preview box?

He encoded everything inm VDM and it looked fine.

In the preview box of Vegas:
It looks darker and it has a brown "touch" just like I described at the first post. Just like some layed a filter of the whole project.

the only thing i can think that would do that would be the source itself.. O.o

maybe try a different source?

ive never worked with those kinds of files before, so i donno what to tell you.

You're saying he opened x264 encoded files in VdubMod? If so, what container were they in? I've had troubles with x264s in Vdub before, in fact they would be damn picky at times, so it could be a deal with the encoding. As for it altering the image as if it were filtered, I dunno, it seems like an odd outcome for that type of encoding transfer. IIRC, last time I used x264 (in an mp4 container) in Vdub, I opened it via
Code: Select all
directshowsource("filepath.mp4", framerate)
and I might have included an assume or changefps (I don't have access to my scripts here, so I'm kinda rusty >_>). I do remember that it (directshowsource) sometimes has issues with framerate and can de-sync it with the audio track.

If you've been able to handle them fine in Vdub though, the colour alterations could just be a source issue, because as I said, it seems like an odd problem to arise from this type of action.
One thing to check, if you haven't already, is just open the Lags in mplayer classic, or VLC or something, to see if the discolouration is happening there too. If not, it's probably something internal with Vegas, maybe a bad switch flipped :P

Hope this helps,

Bah and to add, if it does turn out to be an internal thing with Vegas, try and make a new project file from scratch, don't change any settings, and throw them in there to see what happens.

The problem is Vegas. Only Vegas masses the clips up, but that´s a nice idea to just copy it into a new project. Let´s try oO

Fuck it.
We tried the stupiest thing in the world. Started a new project and copied all the clips and audio into the new project and it worked.
Even the grain is gone >_>

Thanks on the time you spend for helping!
