The Idiots Guide to Vegas

For help and discussion concerning the Sony Vegas software.

Postby LiveForLife » Sun Dec 09, 2007 1:28 pm

Hey guys, wonderful tutorial. I finaly decided to upgrade to sony vegas and dang is it better (and much more complicated) then WMM.

Although I do have one complete idiotic question..
Its kind of embarrasing actualy..
Ok well can I split clips in the project media? I have a full length episode in there right now and Im getting the feeling that I have to split into clips before I import them into the project media. I searched around for help before posting this and the only answer I found was that I had to slit and save my clips in WMM first..
This seemed like a waste of time to me..
So before I start uploading all my full length episodes should I split them into smaller clips first and if so how/where?

Thanks.

you can always just cut out clips using the trimmer:

gah meant to press "preview"...

drop the video file that you want to clip into the trimmer, highlight the part you want, right click and choose "copy" and then right click on the time-line and press "paste"

Hey thanks,

The first tutorial I went to told me to stay away from the trimmer.. which is why I didn't use it, but I think I'll ignore that comment and give it a try.

that glorious flashing banner is a link.

the recommended codec to use is lagarith. It's lossless, but that means that your files will be big. You won't want to re-encode entire episodes, instead you should just make small clips using virtualdub (or virtualdubmod)

that quote is so handy

Okay...i'm VERY new to sony vegas and well I was trying to do the double screen effect, where a scene is on the top, and a different scene is on the bottom...I followed the post exactly and well my clip ends up looking like this:

*the width got changed because I was trying to see if I could fix it...lol*
http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y184/n ... =blarg.jpg

doesnt fit the whole bottom screen...and well I'm stuck on how to get a top image to appear as well..

sorry ^^

also...how would I do the effect of panneling...like you would see in this music vid:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=WbUKr08yaPM
up to 18seconds on that music vid, and some effects on 25-30 seconds as well

and any idea on how to do the pulsing effects?

O.< blah sorry for asking so many questions :p

The easyest way to fix your problem with the video not being where it should be is to manually type in the default values. The values should be Width 720, height 480, X Center 0, Y center 0. Another good thing to know is in most programs the undo works wonders.

As for splitting the screen, I am not sure exactly what you are talking about, because the link did not work. But one way to get the paneling effect is to a add a border effect on each of the clips.

I hope this helps.
