MacOS Software List (Updated 5/5/2017)

Post by Kionon » Wed Apr 21, 2010 8:21 pm

This version of the MacOS Software List is a completely up to date version of the Software List as of April 16, 2017, and will only include software compatible with Intel Macintoshes (those manufactured after August 2006) and only those that run on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and above. Emphasis will be placed on software compatible with macOS Sierra, with additional inclusion of El Capitan as there are 2007/2008/2009 Macs still in the wild which are not compatible with Sierra. Abandonware will, with a few notable exceptions, be removed from this list.

There are dozens of supposed "video" applications for Mac. Most of them are garbage bloatware, and some even skirt the concept of malware. If advocating the inclusion of a program, please fully explain how its use is appropriate for our prosumer purposes.

Ripper

Title: makeMKV
Company: GuinPinSoft Inc.
System: Mac OS X 10.6.x Snow Leopard to macOS Sierra 10.12.4, Windows, Linux
Web link: http://makeMKV.com
Price range: Freeware for DVD/AVHCD, Shareware for BDs ($50 for BD ripping after 30 days)
Trial version? N/A

MakeMKV, as its name suggests, places the ripped material in an MKV container. It can do both DVDs and BDs. In addition, it does NOT convert the video (unless you want it to), it places the original encode into the MKV container, which is what we want. Use a muxing suite to place the encode into a more friendly container for your purposes. I personally have tested makeMKV for DVDs (Ghibli Films) and BDs (Macross Frontier, Wings of Honneamise).

None of these are mac software - these are all windows-only.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

all the more reason to boycott apple. Also, Ipods suck. I'm not attempting to flame by the way, I know that Paint.net would be an unlikely candidate, but sony not porting their editing suites I feel is a real shame.

Since this is a thread about editing on Macs, which are made by Apple, it seems that boycotting Apple would be counterproductive.

And am I the only one that uses Garageband/iTunes for my audio conversion needs?

MAC is a cosmetics brand. Mac is the superior computing platform. It's not an acronym.

Fortunately, everyone else here has higher standards and uses a mac. EAC and fb2k can both be run in OSX albeit not natively. If you hate macs, why are you still here. From what I've read of your posts elsewhere, you seem to hate anything good and are stuck in a world of vague ambiguousness when it comes to relaying anything relevant or the least bit informative. You generally have nothing to contribute to a conversation and almost everything you have said is either misleading or downright incorrect. Stop playing this bullshit game already and prove yourself at least worth paying attention to in a small number of your posts.

Actually relevant to this thread: AutoDesk Cleaner is an excellent NLE.

No. Handbrake is for quick and dirty compression for portable media for people who don't care about preprocessing.

It is not an acceptable ripping software compared to MacTheRipper. MacTheRipper's odd giftware scenario is the only issue it has.
