Down to the point: Effects

Post by miszatomic » Fri Mar 05, 2010 1:04 am

Hi there.. you must get tons of posts asking for help so i'm really sorry for bothering you guys. I’m using Sony Vegas Pro 8.0. I came across some AMVs on youtube all with a similar effect, as well as a few other different ones. I'm just wondering if you can tell me what the effect is/ how to do it... Unlike other people who are vague with their questions.. I made mine down to the points.

Video 1
*The person used Vegas pro 8 and adobe premier pro
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLuTihRlGXM

1) at 0:05secs, 0:25secs you can see 2 videos one on top the other as if one is cut out… what is it called/ how do you do that?
(I believe its also at 0:41secs and 1:35 but it could also be something different)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Video 2
At 1:05
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahcg7Rgcmfk

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Video 3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaL6a20Oz4s
*The person who made this video said they used Vegas Pro 8

1)at 0:20secs.. how do you get 3 faces at once?
2)at 0:28 how on earth did they do that in the background?
3)at 0:40-42 I’m assuming that’s a wave?
4)at 0:43 how do you get multiple shots like that?
5)at 1:06 theres that cut out thing again
6:at 2:02… multiple screens in that specific way

and thats all i would like to know... you're help is much appreciated.

This can be done with the chroma key effect in Sony Vegas. You bascially take out a whole color out of the background and make it transparent. Sometimes it gets good results but it's better to mask out thing but masking takes more time.

Masking or chorma key

1) Cookie cutter
2) Keying to take out the background of the top layer and TV Simulator + fade out to make the background disappear.
3) TV Simulator
4) I'm pretty sure the original was already like that so the editor did nothing to it.
5) I think you need an external plugin to do that effect. Don't know the name so I can't recommend one to you
6) She just used the Pan&Crop tool to resize the footage and position it somewhere else.
