Peach Open Movie: on Blender and related topics
http://www.blender.org/blenderorg/blend ... pen-movie/
On the surface, this is (barely) related to AMVs. Lately, however, there's been a growing interest in integrating 3D assets into AMVs, and I figured anyone reading this board might also be interested in keeping an eye on this latest push by the Blender folks.
Other interesting things related to this announcement:
- All assets produced for the visual portions of the movie will be released under some Creative Commons license (I'm guessing Attribution, but official word hasn't been released yet). If you're interested in seeing principles of 3D character animation, camera work, texturing, lighting, etc. in application, or just want to see what Blender can do for you, you might like this.
- The Blender Foundation is actually opening up their own permanent studio and educational facility. I guess this is only really useful if you happen to live near Amsterdam or can fly out there cheaply, but.

Most excellent. I've been wondering what they'd do next. This is such a compelling argument for people to use blender...I guess I'm being lazy/putting it off since I have a few unfinished projects in 3dsmax now that I really want to get done before tackling something new.
I guess my biggest obstacle would be able to learn to rig similarly to how I do in 3dsmax. I previously learned rigging in a "trial by fire" experience, worked on a project under a deadline and did everything wrong before getting it right. One thing I've found is that between all these 3d softwares, bone and IK information doesn't seem to want to export/import between them. You can do a lot of other things, but that's one thing that just seems to be too program specific.
As I learn blender though, I will certainly share my findings and anything that I might find that will save time and trouble, now that we have a Special Effects forum
(maybe we could keep a 3D animation thread running as a "subforum"?)

Read the fucking article.post-it wrote:ummm .. are you talking about actual 3D as in X,Y,Z,h plus CGIgroups ( like ReBoot ) or more along the lines of Cell Animations ( like Tokimeki and VanDread? )
just curious 8-)
To elaborate:
- It's their choice.
- Cel-shaded 3D is still "actual 3D".
- There is no "h" spatial axis.

Isn't time a dimension? and if so, as soon as you animate your 3d space does it not become 4d? X(k),Y(k),Z(k) etc?trythil wrote:Read the fucking article.post-it wrote:ummm .. are you talking about actual 3D as in X,Y,Z,h plus CGIgroups ( like ReBoot ) or more along the lines of Cell Animations ( like Tokimeki and VanDread? )
