The house I lived in when I was about 6 - 12 yrs old was haunted. No weird noises or things getting moved around or anything, but I saw two ghosts. Totally serious.

Once, I woke up in the middle of the night, don't remember what woke me up, but the hallway light was on, as it always was at that time because I was afraid of the dark. From my bed I could see out into the hallway and into the living room. I saw this little girl with long blond hair standing in the hallway. She smiled and leaned sideways a bit and waved at me. I could see through her. I remember that I wasn't scared, though.

The other time was a few years later and it scared the freaking hell out of me. I was finally old enough that I was sleeping with my bedroom door shut and all the lights off. I was just lying in bed waiting to fall asleep when I saw my closet door open, a man stepped forward and looked at me for a few moments, then stepped back into the closet and the door shut. I got mad, thinking it was my older brother playing a joke on me, so I was yelling and turned on the light and opened the door. Nothing there. My brother was downstairs the whole time.

I think I had tried to tell my mom about these at one time but she has really bad ADD and forgot all about it, if she was paying attention at all in the first place.

I absolutely agree with you. I think it is a bit of a stretch for us to still be trying to make Newtonian physics still apply. The standard model seems to be an attempt to tie everything together, but I don't think it's going to end up working in the end. I guess we'll see what the LHC gives us on that. Science has plenty of critical minds, but most of the time they only see what they want to see.

I don't have any good ghost stories... I haven't had any experience with them... I know I have sometimes thought I might have felt a "presence" but I'm not sure to write it off as my own imagination, or an actual event. However I've never had objects move/appear at random, or actually heard/seen anything.

I used to have a friend who loved looking up "ghost pictures"... It was fun looking at them with her, because a lot of times in the images people would see a piece of dust out of focus in the picture and say it was a ghost... "orbs" they call them. All of the "orb" pictures I've ever seen were actually out of focus dust pieces caught in a flash, in a dimly lit area. A lot of times she would also mistake photoshops for the real thing >.< even when it said it was fake in the caption XD.

I find the whole idea fascinating, but I don't know if I actually believe in ghosts - my rational mind says "no", while my curious mind says "it's always possible - because not everything can be explained.. yet".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've seen what I think were "unexplained lights in the sky" though... However, I've never seen any "flying saucers" or other actual objects other than random strange lights. But then again a trip to Devils Tower might have put my mind into a state thinking it was aliens. Not to mention the fact I was around 15 when it happened.
My dad and my sister and I used to take road/camping trips in the summer back when I was in high school, Yellow Stone, Mt Crazy Horse, Devils Tower, Mt Rushmore, etc.
Devils Tower is really amazing though. It's a volcano. It's core solidified, and then rain/wind eroded the outside of the mountain over several years, so all you can see of it is one gigantic stone core sticking out of the ground. It is really cool.
Well, a certain Mr Spielberg made a film using this geological phenomenon as a setting. The local KOA just so happened to do a "screening" of said film every night we stayed there. They would project it on to the wall of their office building so you could watch the movie and see the actual tower in the background. It was really neat.
On the way home from this specific trip, somewhere in Nevada, we stopped at a campground for the night. My sister and I wanted to take a walk or something so we set off and wandered around the place. I don't remember the exact circumstances but I do remember, around dusk, looking up at the sky, above the horizon to see this really bright light hovering. I thought it was a star at first - but it was brighter than any star I'd seen. It stayed there for a second and then quickly dropped to the horizon.
The easy explanation is that it was an airplane, but it seemed brighter than any airplane lights I'd ever seen, and plane lights usually blink - this was a very steady light, no real twinkle or flashing of any kind. In truth it could have been a shooting star/space trash falling from the sky, but it was still a rather neat experience that scared the crap out of me. XD
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The only other thing I can think of is this: My sister's daughter was born about a year or so after my grandmother died - both my niece and grandmother were born in November, and well when she was a baby - she looked almost EXACTLY like a baby version of my grandmother. She looks more like a clone of my sister now, but it used to kind of freak me out.

That specific geological location is supposed to be pretty popular for UFO sightings.

My brother saw something he couldn't identify and told me about, he was at a restaurant, sitting outside, and there was a storm front with really towering clouds moving in. The coulds had a very black edge, and against this he saw a light. He described it as a sphere, with some glow to it, but not very brightly lit, and that it was pacing the edge of the storm as the storm moved in. He said that it didn't flicker or move, except along with the cloud, then it just faded out.

The most logical solution would be ball lightning or a balloon of some kind, but he clearly states that it simply vanished, and that it was pretty low considering it was under the cloud cover. He also looked up ball lightning to see what it actually looks like, and said that if it was, it wasn't like anything he had looked up. It didn't flicker at all, just a steady glow. I guess I can't speak for him since I didn't see it, but this was his description.

Another neat thing I just thought of, many of you might have heard of it, but if not, check out the "Skinwalker Ranch" story.

Ah but you notice, I didn't see anything actually at the tower XD but rather in Nevada (in the middle of desert) on the way back after visiting the tower. XD In other words - I think the tower got me in the mood to thinking what I saw was something other than what it really was. (Either that or the Aliens chased me across the country just to show off O: lol)

And yea it's a weird formation - I'm not surprised it would be popular for sightings. Though I don't know if I believe in Aliens that visit Earth. Some UFO stories seem way too far fetched. XD

Zephy,

I am not sure this counts, but most people know I'm fairly religious. Perhaps only godix knows to the extent. The reason is primarily my UVIDDs, or Unusually Vivid Intrinsic Defeater Defeaters, or "weird shit that happened that trounces any other argument given to me." I wonder if you would consider these paranormal, and if you would like to hear about them. Nothing so hollywood as stigmata or crying Mary in the sky, but still strong enough I often say I believe against my will because the UVIDDs were so strong, whereas before them, I was pretty agnostic.

Yes, I would be interested in hearing about them. I can't say I've ever experienced something like that, but I do feel that I have an intrinsic knowledge of some creator, despite not being a terribly religious person myself. Call me spiritual. So can you give us particular instances? What happened?

Last year at AWA, a bunch of us went skydiving for Brad's bachelor party. It was a tandem jump, since none of us had skydove before. Anyway, the plane took us up 14,000 feet or so before we leapt out, and we freefell for a while before the guy attached to me released our chute. It was super intense falling that fast, but in a good way. As we floated down, the guy would spin us in these tight little circles to bring us to the ground faster (we didn't have all day, after all). I get motion sick really easily, as some of you know, so all these super sharp spins made me totally queasy. Luckily, I managed to hold it in until we had landed securely on the ground. I'd hate to get charged extra just because I couldn't keep my mouth shut, y'know? What's most important, though, is that our parachute opened normally.

And that's my para-normal story.

(Thanks FC!)

haha Kit.

I'm still trying to rack my brains for these stories - sadly, my own aren't terribly interesting, but my relatives and other people I knew had some fascinating stuff, the details of which I unfortunately forget :(

I know my brother claims to have seen a UFO, which actually seems to match descriptions of some fairly typical kinds of UFO encounters. My dad has seen some fairly weird shit, especially when he served in the army in the Arctic. I've had some very uneasy feelings related to war sites and an ancient, abandoned cemetery next to where I grew up - there is something there beyond just stones and rusted barbed wire. Then there was my Russian teacher, who did his dissertation work on Russian folk superstitions and tradition - and did much of his field work studying crop circles, haunted houses, and collecting bizzare stories in distant villages. I wish I could remember these.

The strangest one I've seen personally is probably an athmospheric phenomenon of some sort - one clear, windless august night in a small Russian village, I remember looking out the window at around 3-3:30am and seeing 4 vertical, motionless columns of dim light rising from the horizon to the sky, tall and relatively thick, all of equal size and at equal distance from each other, at what seemed like a very long distance. They stood for almost an hour before dawn started approaching and they disappeared with the morning light.

Oh ya! About mid-summer I was going for a bike ride and took a rest at a park facing out over lake ontario. I was just sitting when i noticed a few seagulls flying around. Then I noticed something white in the back ground, far away, that was white and just sort of floating. It didn't move so I just stared at it for a bit trying to figure out what it was. Then it wasn't there. Just like that, it disappeared. Still don't really know what it was, closet i can come to a explanation is a UFO. Second is it was a weird cloud. Third is i'm crazy.

I can’t say I’ve witness anything paranormal that couldn’t be explained but people around me have shared some interesting experiences.

When my daughter was 10 she accompanied me to a co-worker’s house to look at a boat for sale. It was late afternoon and the lady selling the boat lived in an older part of the city in an old Victorian that was fairly run-down. No one was home so we just walked around to the backyard where the boat was kept and I started looking it over. As I was looking into the hull my daughter suddenly said, “Hey dad, look at that – what is it?” I thought she was asking about a part of the boat but she started walking away and toward the other side of the house. She suddenly ran back and asked again if I’d seen “it”. I said what; Dog; Cat; Squirrel? She said, “No,no,no it was a little blackish pair of feet and legs and a ball of black fuzzy smoke run around the side of the house and then disappear”. I said it was probably a squirrel but she was absolutely emphatic that it was, “Not a squirrel with people feet!”
The next day I spoke with my co-worker about the boat and mentioned my daughter thought her house was haunted because she saw – my co-worker cut me off and said “A little black entity.” I was taken aback. Apparently, she was well aware of these little fellows appearing and disappearing around her house. She asked if I could bring my daughter back to the house. She absolutely refused to go near that house again.
"Paper or Plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual."

eep eep eeep... kids can definitely see shit....I thought I saw shit when I was little, but I think I was too little to remember it. Primarily in the form of seeing lots of skeletons and bones when I would close my eyes and try to go to sleep, and it would go away if the lights were on. Again, I don't really attribute this to anything supernatural, just a kid having nightmares, but somehow I wonder...

@Oto: I reeeally want to hear some Russian ghost stories/legends...the more fsked up the better :3
